Default Navigational Disk Question

I just picked up an '07 3LT with the U3U radio and navigation system, but no map disk. The dealer is trying (so they say) to contact the previous owner to see if they have it. If not, were can I get one.
My wife has a 2010 GMC Acadia with the nave system, but her map disk does not work in mine.

You can Google "GM Nav Disc Center", and buy a new one for ~$210. New version usually comes out in late summer.

Or ask in the "C6 Parts For Sale/Wanted" section, someone will usually sell you a year or two old version for a lot less money.

Roads don't change that much, and any disc is always somewhat out of date by the time you buy it. We get a new C6 disc every year because we drive all over the country, but our tin grocery getters only receive a new disc every 3 years.

Enjoy your car!

Im buying a vette this week with the navi...

Don't users share their disk or burn them for others and share?

Do you have to have the disk in to use the navi?

I can't see paying 200 for a navi disk.

1. Hard to do, sometimes doesn't work, and copyrighted.

2. Disc must be in the Nav for the unit to work.

3. Your choice. See post #2 for other ways to do it.

The disc must be in the drive for the navigation unit to operate. As far as making copies of the discs and giving them to others so they don't have to buy them, that would be considered "unauthorized duplication" and thus it's illegal. I'm not going to say that it doesn't happen but it's not something that is condoned here. What's much more common and considered perfectly acceptable is giving away the original disc when someone updates to a newer one.

The new 2012 disc is out now, you can go on the website and get that one, it's the most current. If you're interested in the previous one, I think I still may have it in my desk, drop me a note if that's a possibility. I know the factory NAV's had a bad rap, but if you read the manual it works every bit as well as the factory unit in my 2012 Mercedes.

Thanks.. didn't know the disk was copyrighted.

Seems crazy to pay anything more than a nominal fee ($10 or so) for an upgraded disk.

I won't use it much anyway but if I need GPS and maps are not up to date, I have the SYGIC app on my android that works perfectly and uses NO internet connection/no cell signal needed.

Are there many/any functional updates on the newer nav discs? Or is it just new maps?

There are some map updates but the majority of the new info is POIs...Points of Interest, which are just advertising. My subdivision was done a decade ago and is still not on version 8 disc.

What I am a little surprised at, is the disk that came with our (wife's) 2010 GMC Acadia does not work in my Nav. system. I don't really need the Nav all the time, but if we go on a trip it would be nice. I was thinking in that case I could simply move it from her car to mine.

I think the Google navigation on my Android is superior to that GM nav system. I do like the integration with my HUD though

Now your talking !! Great minds think alike... I bought a Magellan, & it came with FREE lifetime updates, and it also has built in "Traffic Warning" It will flash a warning if there is a traffic tie up & give me the option of taking another route if I want..

It also had a speed warning that I can set to "advise me" if I'm going xx mph over the posted limit...I can turn that on or off... I leave it off 99% of the time or if I do set it I set it to notify me if I'm 25 mph OVER the posted limit...

If you got the car from a dealer they should be responsible for providing you with a disc. If they can't get it from the previous owner then they should get one from their parts dept. at no cost to you.

My 2011 disk was out of date with roads in Minnesota when I bought my GS. I wouldn't pay for a new disk that probably is out of date. If they don't let owners download updates, that's bad. I haven't checked because I grab my wifes GPS.
