Corvette Dis'd by Viper Exec
Ralph Gilles, President and CEO of the SRT Brand and Motorsports as well as Senior Vice President of Product Design for Chrysler was quoted saying "The Viper exists so that Corvette owners can have heroes." I’m not so sure I like that.

As for the racing venue. They thought they were hot stuff in the ALMS series until Corvette Racing got the program totally up and running. That chased Viper out after a few years, in fact Corvette chased all of the competition out of GT1. Lets see how long they last this time around. Although with the politics in IMSA/ALMS and allowing the SRT to run their 8 liter engine in the GTE class that has a rule that is very clear and says max. disp. is to be 5.5 liter it maybe around awhile.

I remember one of the car mags did a comparison between the Corvette, Viper and one of the many high performance Mustangs. They out come was the Corvette was the best car going. The Viper was a brute in the quarter mile, but that was it. The Mustang was good in the quarter mile and not bad on the track, but the Corvette was the type of car that you could drive to the track beat on all day long, then turn the air on listen to your favorite tunes and have a nice drive home. You could not do that with the Viper or Mustang.

Don't worry. Chrysler will discontiue it again in a few years like before.
Its an 11 mpg pig. Corvette 0-60 in 4.0 seconds and 30 mpg highway.
CORVETTE - 60 years and still going strong!

"In honor of jpee"
I don't know...it lasted as a brand and model for almost 20 years despite very low sales figures. At a high of maybe 3100 per year and a low of 215, it's hard to believe they made money for the company. And Fiat is all about making money...we think.
If Corvette is looking to this car as a "leading light," I'd find that distressing, to say the least. Its exclusivity may be reflected only by its numbers, and possibly nothing else.

The new Vipers don't even look half as great as a 2006-2013 Z06 in my opinion. Too many curves, they look like jags or something. I just purchased a 2013 ZR1, the Viper wasn't even considered

The old Viper was a bear to drive. I doubt most Vette owners could handle one. You had to pay attention ALL the time or you ended up in trouble. NOT SO with the new one. It has Computer controlled suspension, and traction control. They have upgraded the interior so much that it is actually comfortable to sit in. The one BIG drawback is the price. It is in ZR1 land. Lets see what the C7 holds then compare.

That new viper looks pretty bad azz and so do all the body styles before it. A little trash talk is always a good thing... I have no problem with his comment... matter of fact if I could afford it I would scoop up a viper over my vette anyday and I LOVE my car. There is something about the rawness of the viper that has always appealed to me.

I always find it interesting when a manufacturer making a "Corvette Killer" fails to mention their vehicle costs tens of thousands more than a Corvette.
Still the best value for a high performance sports car on the planet.
