Default What would you pay?

What would you pay for a 2007 Z06 with 11,500 miles? It is a 2LZ with nav and is said to be in perfect condition. The asking price is $48,500 but I feel that is a bit high even with the low mileage. Thanks for the help!

If you want the car then make an offer....that's really low mileage for a five year old car.

What color is it? Does it trip your trigger?

The car is victory red. I just don't want to pay too much. This is my firts vette and I am not an expert on what cars like this are actually selling for.

As far as this car I like it but at the same time I am not trying to be over picky. Is it exactly what I want, no, but I don't think I can afford exactly what I want. It has all the options I want and as far as color I am open to anything but black. The car is a 100% stock but it scares me since it is an '07 since some of those had the needle bearing issue.

I think that is roughly "high book value". Are they going for "high book value" in this economy?

OP, you can check the VIN against the TSB for the needle bearing matter--just have any GM dealer run an inquiry.

Based on the answers I am getting I must sound like a complete idiot. I realize the economy does not support high retail right now but at the same time it is difficult to get a seller to come off his asking price $6,500 without offending them. The mileage is right, condition sounds to be good, and location is fairly close to me so that is worth a little bit.

I am currently waiting for the VIN from the seller. I know this is going to sound even crazier but I work in management at a Chevy, Buick, GMC dealer so running the info is not an issue. Problem is we absolutely never have vettes on our lot and no one is familiar with a good or bad deal. I currently have our wholesaler looking for one but it scares me that you know absolutely nothing about the car before you buy it.

OP, it sounds to me like you have a good situation for a little homework: have the seller bring the car down to
your dealership so the shop can properly (with jacking pucks) get it up on a lift for inspection. Or use a
drive-on lift (no pucks needed).

Ask one of the technicians to call-in someone they know from another shop who knows Corvettes to assist
(pay for the time). Once you have more info, you can better decide how much to offer the seller if you still
want the car.

And, don't worry about offending anyone--it's all business if you just conduct yourself reasonably. GL !

That fear is justified with this sort of car. Do not lose it.

If you have done your due diligence and are sure that is the 'Z for you then offer 44...and see where it goes. If the car is cherry with that mileage, if it were me, I would rather pay a lil extra knowing where the car came from and buying it from the original owner is better IMO.

Add: what is it you really want?

I don't think there is a way for them to knock off $2,000 to $3,000. If the car is clean and solid, make a reasonable offer, but i doubt they will do much, specially if this car is mint...

If money was no object I would buy an '08 10-15k 3LZ JSB, AO, or VR without spending much more than 44. Even with the fall/winter in the midwest, I don't think that this is real feasible.

If the seller won't bring the car by the dealership as Gary suggested so that it can be checked out by the used car peeps just as if it were a trade in, I for one wouldn't touch it. How do you know that the car didn't have headers, CAI and, a tune at one time ? All of which have been removed. You need the serial number so the service dept can run the GM vis or what ever it's called. They can also tell if the PCM has been re flashed.

A mint '08 with low mileage would sell for more than 44 IMO. So I take it your first choice is JSB....something along this line I suppose...(Add: this one is a 2010)

I do not think I would want a wholesaler buying my Vette for me....especially this sort of car....JMO.

If it is the car I want, and everything checks out I am not going to lose it over a few thousand dollars based of course on opinions of those on the forum.
Ask if he is willing to negotiate on the price is yes fine, if no than buy it or move on.
Myself I would be buying.

Default Something stinks ...........

Ok, I said it before, I'll say it again. It is evident that you have not eyeballed the vehicle in person. Bury your emotions ! This is a business deal first and fore most. If the seller won't bring the car to the dealership you work at for inspection, RUN ! Your own used car peeps will tell you that. As have any number of our forum members. tim414 and Gary '09 C6 just to name a few have given you a heads up on vital issues.

Plus, one more thing to remember. If you look around it's not too hard to find a brand new Grand Sport for just a bit more than that. Even though that Z might be cherry, it's still a SIX year old car!
Point that out to the seller....

I would start with an offer of 42k because willing to bet they want around 50k. Bet you can get it for around 45-47k.....which in my opinion isnt that bad of a deal, not smoking but still not bad for the car youa re getting.
