Update on C6 Emblem Collection
I received my 60th 2013 Corvette emblems today. I added them to the shadow box and thought I'd share a picture of them. Even though I do not presently own a Corvette...I have a piece of every one ever made. (I have all the emblems from 1953-2013

That's correct. It was on the 1953 Corvette the day before the Motorama at the Waldorf Astoria. Legal intervened because of the American flag in the logo which as you noted, is illegal to use on a commercial product. Members of the team commissioned a jeweler to come up with a new logo to replace this one and the one you have above is the result. It replaced the American flag with a flag using the Fleur di lis (the jeweler mistakenly thought Chevrolet was a French name), the three bars representing the three Chevrolet brothers and the bow tie used in the Chevrolet family crest. There aren't but one or two of these emblems in the World and one is on display at the National Corvette Museum.
