Default i would like some opinions a new (for me ), an 08-c6 purchase

Tommorrrow i expect to trade my 2004 C5 Coupe w/18,000 miles, ( a creampuff )on 2008 C6 also looks loved but w/34,000 miles. I do plan on buying an extended warranty thru CarMax,(i'd love any feedback on carmax pricing, warranties, etc) i also beieve the 2008 was the first year of the 430hp ls-3 vs the 2007 400hp ls-3, right.

Giving me $ 19,000 For my 04 c5 coupe 20,000 miles
Base
$ 34,000 For a 08 c6 coupe 34,000miles
2LT

CarMax 6year 75,ooo mile ext warranty at $ 1445

The 08 is a 2lt, so I get the hud i had previously missed. And nav, whoo ! whoo !

Whats the general opinon, price vs mileage, etc. Thanks ahead of time, constructive criticsim appreciated. Peace

I would probably sell your car outright ,it does have awful low mileage...I also will add read the fine print of the warranty ,you wouldn't believe the things they exclude in the fine print

I got my '05 from Carmax and got the same warranty. I used it last month for a $1300 repair at the dealer. I paid $300 and warranty covered the rest no questions asked. I traded a 2000 Grand Prix and didnt get as much as I wanted but it wasnt to low that it killed the deal. You could get more selling yourself.

good advice, critical the warranty exclusions are killers. as far as private sale, this car has had a past, the motor was replaced in 07-2011 due to hydrolock, the new crate LS-2 has 2,000 mi. on it , and the car had a fender bender, so carfax catches that, i think i could get $23-24,000 in a private sale but i wont be able to sleep. i want to know the history of the car i buy, so i let the car go to auction, buyer be aware.

How much faith do you have in the extended warranty.

My 08 only has 15k for milage.

Most generally Corvettes are bullet proof. IF you keep them stock and keep a battery tender on the car.

FWIW, the carfax warranty covers free rental car when service causes overnite loss of use, tow coverage, etc. Its these little ticklers that i like plus thw warranty states ONLY GM oem parts with be used, nu substitutions.

i agree with batman but its just my experience that i will use the extended warranty. i have probably saved $50,000 by always buying ext warranty on expensive items. they always pay for themselves, (for me anyway).

I would not want to go from a used car w/20k miles on it to a used car w/34k miles on it.
Why not consider a new 2012 coupe for not a lot more money.
Then you will have a cream puff for sure, and a new car warranty.

do it. you sound like you know what you're doing. the car is most likely sound and in good condition. while you describe your C5 as a creampuff, it really isn't by most standards beyond looks and mileage. you have descriptions on here of peop who've used ex warr. and those who've even had ex warr. claims covered by CarMax. and I've watched this co. from its first year back in '93, even sold them a few cars. you can do better probably in buying and selling, but the hassle factor is also present. you've taken some of the worries out of buying used too, w. the ex warr.

Dealerships give a nice trade in value then over charge on the one they are selling as is the case for an 08 with that much mileage.

Congrats! Enjoy the new car. It sounds like you really want the ext. warranty but make sure you know what it covers and what it DOESN'T cover. I personally would skip the warranty and save the money myself for any unexpected issues.

Sounds like a fair deal based on the facts you provided.

I usually think the same way about extended warrantys but I'm glad I got it in this case. It covers everything the gm warranty covers. Deductible is $250 if you use Carmax for repair or $300 if you go anywhere else. Cost is $1400 and I've already recovered $1000 of that getting my harmonic balancer replaced.

$34k on an 08 with decent miles is about right at this time of year and as long as you've checked the car out and everything is good that isn't a bad price on their car. I'd say $19k on your car from Carmax is a fair offer snd since you already know of a few issues your car had, makes it even more fair. Yes you could probably get a couple grand more if you sold it private, but that is hoping you can sell the car and still find a car you like. Timing is everything and I personally from what you've told us would just go ahead and do the deal. Never hurts to try and get either a bit more from them on your trade or have them drop a few hundred on theirs. JM2C. Good luck and post pics if you get the new ride.

Your warranty seems to be a little better than the VehicleOne warranty in that the VO states that they can use any replacement part, not just OEM.

So, so far you've paid $1650 or $1700 for a $1000 repair. hmmmm
