Started wanting one at about 13...had homes, kids, divorce, career building, and a few other obstacles that made me wait 'til I was 52. That was 6 years ago and I have had an 85, a 94, and now have an 06. I'm already lusting for a 60th anniversary car. (And will always want to restore a 65)

Just for ***** and giggles I did a little research into inflation. In today's money, that would be worth $9,520.91.

Corvettes really were affordable back then compared to now.

2013 GS M6 3LT NPP MSRC DVD/Nav etc, w/2 miles on the odometer.

I'm 45, retiring, and just trading one smooth, bada$$ cockpit for another.

That sounds about right. I had saved money for years and had been working real part-time jobs since 15, including weekends. It took everything I had and a lot of discipline, just to buy that car but I knew what I wanted because I was smitten with it. Then I couldn't afford the insurance, so my father helped on that. That car, in reality, truly taught me how to drive with some skill.

On a related topic.... One year later, I got my private pilots license too.

22 and bought my dad's Yellow 92 LT1 with a 6 speed manual for $2000. Had to fix the A/C, change the fuel filter, fuel pump, stereo, and rear tires so I forked out another $1300. But I can't complain. 130K miles and gets awesome fuel mileage and I'm only in to it $3300 and the only thing it needs is a weather stripping kit.

I was 17 and bought a used maroon 1970 4 speed, red 454 from the original owner for $4500 after saving money working. Its the one that is in my avatar. Prior owner overheated the 454 and replaced it with a L88 427 crated engine. I sold it after Sunoco stopped selling the super high-test 260 gas as it would ping because of the 12.5 to 1 compression.

I haven't read through the entire thread, but wouldn't be surprised, if I've waited longer than anyone for my first 'vette.

Marriage, house, kids, weddings, college, grandkids, etc., all were first priority.

Just got my first 'vette, a brandy new 2013 'GS 5 months ago, at age 69! Lovin' every minute of it.

My first was at age 59, when I had to give up motorcycles. I could of had a 62 vert for $2,000.00 when I was 18 in 1972, but was going in the Army at the time and knew I was going overseas.
