Default Z06 Brake questions

Hey guy, I don't plan on replacing the brakes on my C6 coupe till they need to be done but need some info:

I want to do the Z06 brakes when the time comes, but do not know if they will fit? Can anyone who has done them on a coupe let me know what you need to do them? / spacers, ect.. Please post pics Thanks!

Z06 brakes will not fit with standard coupe wheels. You will need spacers or new wheels with the correct offset.

Here is some offset info:
C6:
Front 18 x 8.5, +56 mm offset
Rear 19 x 10, +79 mm offset
Bolt pattern 5 x 4.75 in

C6Z06:
Front 18 x 9.5, +40 mm offset
Rear 19 x 12, +59 mm offset
Bolt pattern 5 x 4.75 in

You can get a complete Z06 brake kit for around $2000. That includes everything needed including new rotors and lines.

As John stated, you will either need longer studs with spacers to get clearance or different wheels with an offset made to clear the Z06 brakes.

Actually from what another member showed me, they will fit under the stock Gumby wheels with a 5mm spaced and extend a lugnuts.

It's not offset you need to worry about, it's the clearance behind the spokes. Offset just dictates the lateral position of the rim centerline with respect to the mounting surface of the hub; it doesn't affect the position of the spokes with respect to the calipers at all.

I went to a 19 x 9.5 upfront. Don't remember what the offset was - for some reason 62 is coming to mind. I still needed an 1/8" spacer - and they are VERY tight.

Any particular reason you would want to put the Z06 calipers on? They are sort of a sub optimal solution if you are planning on using the brakes hard.

I really just love the look of them.

I know I have the Hertz 7 spoke factory rims, I need to know what size spacers I need for front and back.

Care to elaborate on this any? The Z06 calipers are pretty good, minor things like pads make them just as good as any other bring brake option out there plus they are factory offered to boot.

I am in the same boat, plan on putting a set on mine down the road as well.

You need 8mm spacers and extended thread lug nuts.

Any vendors names you can throw at me to order the spacers and extended lugs from?

There are better calipers, but are you really going to need them. IMO, the stock Z06 calipers are fine for HPDE sessions of 25 minutes of less.

If you get them hot enough, long enough, the stock aluminum caliper pistons transfer heat to the fluid. Then you need to upgrade the caliper or put in SS pistons, or just slow down.

This is the best place for spacers and they are forum sponsors. You want hub centric 8mm with gumby wheels. Lug nuts you want Cragar extend thread and you can get them at Summit racing.

The stock Z06 rotors will still rust like the other versions, unless you paint them or have them zinc plated.

Also IMHO the improvement is largely cosmetic. I used ceramic pads with my Z06 brakes and have much less dust to deal with. Or at least it isn't as noticeable.

The car may stop a little better, but the added un-sprung weight is quite noticeable.

If you're considering this mod for track use, go with something better.

Spacers are available from PFADT, Doug Rippie Motorsports, H&R, and Summit has a large selection of universal spacers.

ARP sells a variety of correct wheel studs for the C6, in various lengths.

If you install a spacer and reduce the number of exposed threads on the wheel stud, I don't understand how different lug nuts are going to help.

Here's a pic of the OEM wheel stud (note the lack of threads on the tip) and some other options. There is one inch of exposed thread with the Z06 brakes on my otherwise stock '06.

The ones I put on my car are the "race" rotors variety, which are zinc plated. I love the zinc plating for obvious reasons, and they are for both show and go. I don't track or anything, but I found out these things stop the car on a dime - even better than my Z51 brakes that were previously on the car. I like the Hawk ceramc pads alot as there is rarely any brake dust to deal with. For me, this was a very nice all-around improvement for my ride.

The lug nut fits into the wheel I get about 8 turns of the nut with 8mm spacers. I purchased new Studs but never bothered to put them on and I'm very confident in there strength.
Here is a link to lug nuts but these might not be the ones for c6 you can use the link to look
