Question: why do some people buy a car, to never drive it? opinions?
Let me start by saying I am in no way trying to insult anyone... I am just wondering about this recently.
I saw a FS thread on here with the 04 with 700 miles, my friends father has an 02 Mustang GT with 8,000 miles on it. And I have seen alot of other various cars with almost no mileage on it...
it makes me wonder what are peoples reasons for not driving the car?
hoping it retains value?
Family and job responsibilities get in the way ? etc;
I have an 08 z06 I bought in 4/10 with 3k miles on it and I put about 9k on it since then but I drive it all the time (just simply dont travel that far) I absolutely love driving it and don't see the point in "saving" it with no mileage on it. In fact I am proud when I get to put mileage on it.. same goes with my streetbike... The more I ride it the happier I am... I would love to put 10k a year on it , but I doubt that will happen... more like 4k a season on the bike

My guess ... They think that if they keep the car for 35 years with very few miles on it, it will be worth alot of money.
Of course, that won't work for me ... I will be dead of old age before my Corvette is worth more than I paid for it, so I just drive it pretty much all the time.
Had I not had any intention of driving the car, I certainly would not have bought it in the first place. That would have been a waste of money.

Simple. We are Americans. We have choices and many of them. We can have 1 car or several cars. Fortunately we are not yet, like Europe where they have the choice of a bike or a small car.

Some folks get there enjoyment from simply owning the car. I am damn sure not one of them, I drive mine. But I have a friend with a 2010 Camaro SS with less than 400 miles on it! Unbelievably he is taking it in to a performance shop for headers, hi-flow cats and performance exhaust system *AND* a dyno tune. It will be fast as hell in the garage.

Psychological. Good topic for a Ph D.
You do have the crazy - it will be worth a fortune someday folks.
You have others that want X and save a long time for it...in there life it will be the only one...thus precious. I go to Europe 1x or 2x a year to mentally escape work (London or Rome). No big deal for me and easily done with a non-stop out of SFO. But I have relatives who do not have the means, whosaved for a very long time to take their retirement trip. For the next 10 yrs it was the talk and event of their life. My sister had health issues (now passed) she made 1 trip to Italy-that memory carried her for 20 yrs. Same with cars for some folks. They are living their dream and wish to keep it 'new' so let them.
My Corvettes (past and future) I drove and will always drive... my 12 Boss 302 which costs 10k less than a 2lt GS gets very limited mileage (6 months old and it hasn't hit 500 miles yet). That car has "name" meaning to me...takes me back in time to the great Trans Am era and later high school years..... don't expect it to climb in value, don't care if it ever does. I simply want to keep it new "for me"..... $45k to just look at it....perfectly fine with me. Why not buy a 1st generation Boss 302...simple, although miles are limited on the 12 I do like to drive it..and an original 69 Boss would never see the street with me. Owned a GT350 (66) once....too damn scared (value) to enjoy driving it (bought and sold before prices went nuts). I love 63 split windows...won't buy one of those for the same reason, too paranoid of other drivers.

It's the same with lots of things like this. Second homes...the bigger they are, the less they get used. Boats...the average boat in Marina Del Rey in Los Angeles is out of its' slip less than 20 hours a year. Harleys, airplanes...all the same. Most get used very little. Some get used alot, but not many. Now bring on all the comments about how often everyone rides his bike or flies his Gulfstream...LOL

600,000+ miles in Corvettes and proud of it.
No one every arrived on their death bed saying, "I wish I'd driven the Corvette less."

Maybe something most don't consider. I have an 06' ZO6 I bought new, with only 6K mi on the clock now. Most of those are road course track miles, and driving to/from the track. Wouldn't exactly say I'm not driving the car, as actually experiencing driving, most owners don't. Just using the car, mostly what I bought it for.

I really dont see why this is even a topic of discussion? Who gives a s__t what someone else does with their car? is this all you have to think about? Yes its a forum, a topic to discuss car stuff on but do you really care what someone else does drive/not drive their car as a daily driver?
Its called freedom and we can all do as we please and its none of your business.
Now, why on earth would someone buy a silver car? Choices!
