Default Corvette is an empire unto itself in terms of branded merchandise

With sales coming out today some may wonder if GM will always make the Corvette. One word - licensing. Sales are just a part of the revenue generated by Corvette. As GM spokesman said "Corvette is an empire unto itself in terms of branded merchandise." GM is 12th for generating $3.5 billion annually in retail sales of trademarked items, and Corvette is a large part of that. Keep buying those hats, shirts, seat covers, clocks, mugs, key chains, ....... and Corvette's future is secured.

Yep Corvette isn't going anywhere IMO.

Get a quote for licensing a product and you'll see why

I have heard to get a product Licensed you could be looking at $15,000.

One would have to make and sell a lot of widgets to cover that.

!!!!!!!!!!

They need to go to Harley school and they could make $$$billions$$$ on merchandise!!!!

Go into a Harley dealer and you'll see more "merchandise" than you do motorcycles.

There are jackets, hats, t-shirts, regular shirts, jeans, patches, jackets, shoes/boots, etc., and a HUGE section with parts to mod your bike to your personal style.

And - they have a section with nothing but women's stuff, including jewelry. I think they know who they really need to market their stuff towards!!

I bet Harley makes more on all that other stuff than they do on motorcycles!!!

You can hardly find a Corvette patch - they're probably afraid to sell them because they don't know what you might put it on. Gimme a break - we're gonna sew it onto shirts, jackets, vests, and advertise the brand all over the place!!! Don't worry about what we sew it on, you'll be getting more advertising than you could ever buy otherwise.

Come on GM/Chebie - start putting out more "merchandise" and letting people put the brand out there on more stuff and your bottom line will benefit more than you can imagine.

GM, go take a look at a Harley dealership and take away some ideas!!

Yes, everyone is in on the act. The Dept of Defense (DOD) is now requiring licenses for vendors to sell various iconic items like the USMC Emblems, Jump Wings, etc.....It's all about the bucks baby!

Of course, when you purchase an item that has (for example Jump Wings) the purchaser pays for it...heck I paid for it when I graduated jump school in 1980.....ugh, don't get me started

Movies, especially kids movies make more $$ on stuff than the movie...can you imagine how much Star Wars, CARS, Harry Potter, Toy Story, etc have made ...wow, that is lot of $$$.

EXACTLY what I was thinking when the OP made his post.

Kinda like Harley Davidson ... but on a much smaller scale.

The brand itself (with all branded merchandising) will likely remain but with our all-controlling, nanny government supplanting free market consumer demand with onerous government regulations the Corvette is destined to become some hybrid 'green' weeniemobile. The engineer's will compensate for as long as they can but at some point, due to economics and the even more oppressive government dictates, the scales will shift the decision will be made and the high performance V8 Corvette we’ve loved for so long will be gone. However well-disguised for the moment, the degradation of the marque has already begun.

The Corvette is only 1 of 2 worthwhile vehicles GM makes right now. The other being the CTS-V.

I still remember when I got my 2003 Anniversary V-Rod & they sent me a Harley coffee cup after the purchase. Rolled it over & saw the tiny 'Made in China' sticker on the bottom. The cup is in a landfill somewhere now.
