Maybe the guy in the van has a nice shiny Corvette at home, but he drives the van to big parking lots. He carefully parked beside you so at least one side of your car was protected...

Plenty of room, I do not see a problem. Do you expect all others to stay away because you have a Vette.

Now, take that same example, but imagine the guy in the urinal next to you cant aim worth a $#!& and pisses all over the urinal, splashing **** all over your feet in the process. Now, this might not happen most of the time but you might feel inclined to use the urinal 2 stalls down next time just to keep your shoes **** free. We park a few spots away to avoid door dings caused by people with "poor aim".

But a GREAT analogy!

Love the pic! Kinda speaks for itself. I would have still parked to the far right in the picture so the passenger side of your car could have been by the curb/island. Least then the Jeb Clampets from WV could have only parked on one side.

I don't think this gives Vette owners bad reputations. You will find owners of all makes of vehicles who will park their vehicle away from other cars to avoid getting damaged. I see the OP's point. You have the whole parking lot and you park next to me! I drove my wife's 2011 Grand Cherokee to the grocery store. When I parked head in, there were 5 empty stalls to my left and right. After I came out of the store, I noticed a Suburban had backed into the stall next to me on my driver's side. As I got closer, I saw a very large woman trying to squeeze out of her car and I had to hold her door from hitting my car. I said to her "Are you kidding me, why did you have to park right next to me when you have all these open stalls!." She replied "I park where I want." Bottom line, most people don't have common sense.

Happens all the time. Last year a buddy and I stopped at a McDonald's for a fruit smoothie and parked way out in back and came back to find this.....

Was in my vette a couple of weeks ago and gave my friend a ride to Lowe's to pick up a couple of things. I waited in the car just listening to the radio. There was a brand new black camaro parked a bit out from other cars. Some guy in a station wagon towing a small flatbed trailer decided to cut through the parking lot by going between the camaro and another car and turned too sharp and got the trailer hung up on the camaro and got stuck. I was sitting there watching this whole thing. The guy got out of his car and started unhooking it and trying to get it unstuck...too bad for him the camaro guy came out and caught him. So, just parking further out is not always the best solution.

Clearly, this is what people are referring to when they insist that foreign cars are better quality and have better interiors? The van's owner was probably just trying to make you feel better by parking such a finely-crafted vehicle next to yours.

I don"t think the op started this thread in order to start a pissing contest as to where to park or not. I see his point, I too park far away and not just the vette, my other cars as well. If you park near the doors with the masses then your chances of getting scratched greatly increase. If you park far away they decrease, even with those that tend to find you and park close to you. Can we agree on that? I don't think we, vette owners, park far away to display our prim-dona status, just to take a little extra care of the car most us have saved our entire lives to buy.
