Question for 6 speed owners
When you turn the car off do you leave the shifter in reverse or 1st gear. And is there a specific reason for either other than the gear ratio. I know the owners manual has it in reverse.
Thanks

I leave it in first and pull the parking brake. With the 3LT pkg., this returns the seat to the neutral position. When I get home, after the seat is returned, I release the parking brake because the car can sit for a week or two. When I go to leave the next time, I have to pull the E-brake to move the seat into position 1.
Don't know what the gear ratio has to do with your question though, please explain...

I leave it in reverse most of the time with the E-brake on, no specific reason for doing so.

It only matters if you drive an 05. That one year only required the car to be parked in reverse due to a battery issue. Does not relate to any other year.
On my 08 I pull the e-brake and park in neutral.

The reason car manufacturers (not only corvette) tell you to leave the m6 in reverse
is because it is a lower gear ratio than first.
If you park on a real steep incline the engine would have to dead spin faster.
This origionally started with the old 30's cars, but with a big v8 it really wouldn't make much difference so I park mine in 1st.
The 05 corvette parks in reverse because it was set up that way for less battery drain.

Reverse is a must for 05 cars only.Other then that, any gear will do.I put mine in reverse most of the time because I heard on here it's the best gear to leave it in for things to shut down.

That being said, I use reverse on my '05 as I almost always back out from parking at home and work.

The '05's need to 'see' reverse for a few seconds when you turn the car off, so it can shutdown the electronics fully. As long as you don't get the 'shift to reverse' warning, after that the shifter can be left in any position without battery drain.

For me it depends on what I will need to do when I go to leave. If I have to back out I'll leave it in reverse and if I have to pull forward I leave it first. Just a habit I have had for years so I won't accidentally put it in the wrong gear if I'm in a hurry when I leave.

The proper way to park on a sharp incline in a standard shift car is: If the front of the car is pointed toward downhill, then the car should be parked in reverse. If the front of the car is headed uphill then the car should be in first gear. The car shouldn't roll if it is in the opposite gear that it is headed.......... Also, if you park the car against a curb, the wheels should be turned in the direction so that the front tire is against the curb to keep it from rolling. No offense but, uhhhh......you should have learned this in driver's training when you got your license.........
