Critter in engine bay
any ideas what to do about a critter getting in and eating and pooping aroung the battery and also stsring to chew some of the insullation off the wires? Never had this before. I thought maybe some urine might do the trick. Thanks

I think the biggest thing you can do is simply make sure that the car doesn't sit for extended period of time.
I know for non daily cars and cars that get stored in winter time, this isn't as easy as it sounds.
I had a mouse clan living on the intake manifold in my Z06. I removed the nest and simply started driving the car. Never had a problem after that.

Mouse trap.
You want to kill it before it does serious damage to your car. Don't poison it, because if it crawls away and gets into your vents and dies then you'll have another problem
Good luck!

We've had similar problems with both mice and chipmunks; though we have not detected actual damage.
We use a three-pronged solution:
1. Kill 'em outside. Havahart chipmunk traps outside the house. Chippies fail the swim test every time.
2. Kill 'em inside. We use glue traps, tipping box traps, and pet-resistant poison baits inside the garage.
3. Keep them away. Each car has two tupperware dishes with some small holes punched in the top, filled half full with mothballs. One dish under engine, one dish under trunk. Replace moth ***** every 4 months.
Our garage smells like Grandma's closet, but not a single critter inside for the last three years.

Try one of these baited with dry dog food pellets. It'll work for anything up to and including squirrel size...

I've had one for years (older model) that I keep baited in my garage at all times. At times (especially in the fall/early winter) I'll get a mouse every day or two. At other times (typically spring/summer) I'll go a month or more between catches. My neighbor borrowed it for a squirrel problem he'd been fighting for months and caught the little bugger in 3 days. They work well.

Move to Georgia or Lousiana, they love to hunt and eat critters, and corvette-fed critter would be be a gourmet treat down there.

I picked up a pack of those Black & Decker plug-in ultrasonic pest repellents. Put one in the garage over the winter every year during storage and never had any critter issues. I leave one on in my garage year-round now. Seems to work.

I had a mouse hanging out just inside a FRC, acorn pieces and turds all over, so put snap traps w/peanut butter bait next to each front wheel ... and got him. Have not seen another one since.
When I was asking advice then some suggested traps of course, as well as bowls of ammonia and leaving the hood open with a light on overhead. Good luck ...

I had a mouse build a nest in the trunk right by the holes that look as though they would go down into the rear panel. I stuffed them with dryer sheets and haven't seen any sight of it again.
