I tend to use the paddles mostly on my cross country trips. Love going through the mtn passes and winding highways. What an awesome machine the Vette is !

I use them when I've got the NPP open and like to hear the revs up and down.

Best use of the paddles is coming fast into a turn and using them for multiple, rev-matched downshifts. A little trailbraking into the turn and feather right back into the throttle.

I use them for racing because I don't want the trans doing something on its own that I'm not expecting. I use them on the twisty mountain roads around here just because. I use them on the highway to adjust RPMs to minimize exhaust drone. I probably use them for half the miles I put on mine.

I find the paddles to be rather boring. When I retire and no longer need to commute in stop & go traffic with my Starbucks coffee, I'll get the real deal...like a used 427 convertible, complete with a real floor clutch.

Default All the time

I really like being in control of the gear selection. To me, the biggest advantage of manuals is being in control of the gear for power management. The paddles allow that even though they might not be as much fun. In rush hour traffic, I usually leave it in 2nd gear to minimize shifts. I also downshift around slow corners to minimize that annoying gear hunting issue. The only time I use D is when I am talking on the cell phone....or when my wife drives it...

The paddles are in my way... When doing average driving I like to ride with my hands right where they are located. I'm able to do that in my other vehicles but not the Vette... I bought an automatic so I could just cruise. If I wanted to WORK I'd have bought a manual transmission.

I like the idea of the paddles but I don't like the reality of it so much -- mostly just the placement of the top portion of the paddle. Wonder why they have to stick up above the center hub? If just the part on the back of the wheel and one side did an upshift (the right side seems logical to me) and the other side (left) did a downshift, I would like it better.

Dave
I use the paddels mostly on the freeway. If I'm in traffic or morning commute if my speed is 65 or less, the engine is idleing. I rarely use 6th, 5th is just bearable.
I also use the paddels in the city to get a little "spirit" drive in at times

I used to use them all the time. However, now that I have the 3200 torque converter, it seems to shift faster on its own. Maybe I should use them more!!

I use the paddles more than occasionally, but not as much as half the time. So in the pole I voted as half the time because I thought it better represented my use between the two choices. Do I like the paddles, yes. Do I think I can make better choices than the auto mode-- sometimes, but not very often. When I use the paddles, it is mainly because I just find it a little more entertaining to drive that way.

We have both, a manual and the auto/paddles. For me the manual is still the most fun.

I love the combination of NPP/wild and paddle shifting. The gurgling on the down shift makes me smile ear to ear. More fun in wild mode, not as exciting in mild mode.

#2: I use them when cruising with other vettes on mountain roads and when driving on any twisty roads so I can maintain lower gears. I usually keep it in S when driving ariund town so that I can downshift to pass slow traffic quickly.

4. I use the paddles most of the time

Before i put on the exhaust, I hardly ever used the paddles. After the exhaust... well let's just say I have a problem, I can't help cruising at 45 in 2nd gear...

I use the paddles most of the time for the reasons others that do have stated. I select the gear just as I would with a manual as the situation warrants.

I changed them to downshift on the left and upshift on the right many years ago and am able to use them without thought when on the road, for autox, and running HPDEs. It's every bit as fast as the manual trans cars and more reliable.

Sure, they could be better but with practice (like you have to put into driving a manual trans car well) they also become intuitive and have the added benefit of allowing easy left-foot braking.

I try to use them when I remember I have them there XD I am on my second Corvette with the paddle option, day one two and three with my first one I used them all day. After that I would notice them on the wheel when on a long highway; Thinking oh, perhaps I should use it. 2 minutes in the novelty wears. Now, after so long with them... the occassion I notice them becomes a personal driving debate. "Uhg.. do I feel like it" it's kinda like some.... other .. things in life.. anyway. """Rarely""" says I.

Default Kind of sort of

Used them on the '06 and the '09. The next one will have the A6 too. The '11 with it's M6 would be fun if it weren't for it's having become my dd. Somehow after having both knee and rotator cuff surgery .............. At least I'm above ground another day !
