As I stated more then once the guy should be punished financially and legally. Maybe he is a idiot but there are members that state the guy should have died or killed himself. Who are the idiots then?

Safety Car
How did they "estimate" that the car was going 180MPH? There doesn't appear to be enough left of the car to recover the SDM (a.k.a. the "Black Box" that records data after an airbag deployment). That sounds like a pretty self-serving estimate to me...
I agree with the first part of your post - some people see "Corvette" and assume the driver must have been speeding. One time I was sitting at a stop light when a cop pulled up next to me and warned me to "keep it under the speed limit." I was ****ing stopped at a red light and he thought I was speeding!!!!

I think the question someone posed is valid, in your mind what is sppeding and when dows it become excessive. Personally I think that where and when makes a big difference, doing 75 in a 25mph residential zone at 3:30pm when kids are walking home from school is excessive. doing 90 (half of what was claimed on a interstate at 3AM with noone in site is speeding but no where near as bad as what this guy was doing which was clearly dangerous to others at 7PM on I-10, even 90 would have been cause for danger to others.
I think it just points to lack of moral judement.

There are only a few that have gone over the top. I agree he deserves what is coming to him with fines, jail or financial penalties. You are 100% correct nobody should wish for someone to die in a car wreck other then a terrorist or mass murderer.
If you do some simple searches on this forum you will see 2 things. 1 there is a click of certain members that band together to bash other members. Another is many like to jump on a bandwagon to belittle members they disagree with or that are new.

Smart people can make stupid choices. Thankfully in this instance there was no "permanent damage" to anyone, and hopefully the lesson was learned and the lapse in judgment won't be repeated.
While one should never condone such things, at one point in our lives we've all done something dangerous where we could have killed ourselves or others, as long as we didn't and learned from the incident I feel we are better off than just being told "not to." There is something more "real" about experiencing things yourself, even if the thing you experience is almost dying. Teens remind parents of this daily.
Who knows, this whole incident might save his life in the future.
