Default 2012 Hot Rod Power Tour - Anyone Going?

I just booked all the hotel rooms and am doing the Long Haul this year. My little bro and I are leaving from DFW on the 31st. Been waiting for this opportunity for many years and am really looking forward to it. Just wondering if anyone else is doing the same.

I'd love to, but I just don't have the vacation. I'm sure it will swing back toward Detroit in a few years anyway. We are a common start/end point.

Bump... gotta be others going. I'd hate to think I'm representing the Corvette community by myself.

Lurking here to see what you guys are up to so I thought I would throw this out here.

I'm going. Leaving on May 31, meeting Forum member RollaMo LT4, he is driving his LT4 C4, real nice car and I'll be in this again this year. Both Torch Red, if you see us stop and say hello. RollaMo (Greg) has been going since 05 IIRC and he turned me onto it in 2010. I went the first 4 stops in 10 and 11 but this year I'm going for the Long Haul. I have a new license plate frame that simply says 1999 Fixed Roof Coupe in red at the bottom. (yes my tips are polished now)

I'll be at the Miami, OK and Stillwater, OK stops. I haven't decided if I'm taking the C5 or the C6.

I want to go so bad but both my 88 year old parents are acting up and I don't feel safe enough to get out that far. Have a great time boys and I hope to see you in my vette next year or if it's ready my 32 coupe. This is a dream "man-cation" . Have fun

I went in 2007, had an incredible time. left for the tour in 2010 and my buddy driving his pantera came down sick around Colorado so we ended up turning around. For 2011, I was in Hawaii and 2012, I'm being sent to Hawaii again as the sole photographer for the Pacific Island Princess beauty pageant.

Yea, yea, yea. Its a good gig, great scenery, location and pay but I'd actually rather be doing the power tour. I've shot the Hawaii pageant for 9 years now. The problem is if I back out of this shoot, I could lose the other 3 pageants around the country that i shoot for them too. Sooooo I'm trying to get them to book other than the first two weeks of June!

Have fun!

Not that I ever post much over here...but I'll be at the Champaign, IL stop. No long haul for me. I'm still not sure what will be there, tentatively planning on having a 68 Super Bee there, but if not, I'll just be another C6 lurking off to the side.

No need to lurk off to the side, all cars/vehicles are welcome. there are lots of vettes there too. everyone is very friendly and you wont believe some of the cars you will see there. In 07, there was a guy driving a "carnival space ship" that he'd put on a toronado chassis. Unfortunately there was no roof on that thing and his windshield could not have been more than about 4 inches high.

we had a ton of rain on that trip but as i recall he drove the whole thing. Probably had pneumonia after that run but it was cool as hell.

Here are some pics of the 2010 tour. I didn't take many last year

I had a 73 Chevelle 454 SS just like this one back in the day. Wish I knew then how rare these cars were.

Anyone remember the Javelines?

At Mid America. They put on a lunch stop and are doing so again this year

Has an L98 in it

Work in progress. Dad and son from Missouri

C5 Z

RollaMo in the lead and me behind him pulling into the Duquoin, Il venue. We made the Hot Rod Website with this picture

The grizwald family

Made the Hot Rod website twice this year. (it's a big deal for those who follow this sort of thing

Last year at the home of Jimmy Carter

Last year at Cocoa Beach

OP if you don't want these pics in here PM me and I will delete.

Yep, as Mike said if any of you see us along the way stop and say hello.
Been doing the "Long Haul" on Power Tour since 2003.
I am addicted.

I have family from Iowa that are doing the whole trip. I think it is my uncle, a cousin and his dad, maybe a few more, I will try to find out what they are driving, they have many old/cool cars...to illustrate the point...it looks like a wedding broke out at a car show whenever one of my cousins gets married....as they all get out their hot rods for the shindig LOL.. I live in the DFW area of Texas, so I will at least come for the tail end/final stop in the DFW Area. I thought about doing the whole thing but that sure is a long way to go from Texas to Detroit and then back to Texas again! Who knows though....

I'm also from the DFW so I know what you're thinking. But it's honestly the best time to do the Long Haul since you won't have far to drive once it's done. We're rolling out on the afternoon of the 31st and driving through the night to get to Detroit on the 1st.

I'm sure I won't be the only black Z06 but I'll be easy to spot with my plate.

Guys,...If your are teetering on whether to make time for this and you have never participated in an HRPT event, for a real gear-head, this is a bucket list sort of thing.
I have participated in 3. Its the craziest thing to be rolling down the interstate with a buddy talking cars,..and find yourself all the sudden driving next to cars that you have seen in magazines or right here on the forums. I just can't explain how killer this is. Im picking up my new Z06 at Livernois this coming weekend and this will be my first outing with the car. Cant wait!

You either have to drive a long way to get there or a long way home when it's over. So if it ends where you live it's the best case scenario for some folks. I prefer to have a drive home myself though as it gives time to come down from the adrenalin rush. A lot of folks come from CA and they always have a long way to go on both ends

That's what I call breaking in a new Z06.
