Maryland Front plate requirment
I was at a traffic light yesterday and noticed a State trooper eye balling the front end of my car. I purchased a 2012 Centennial 4LT a few weeks ago. As I went throught he light he pulled a U turn and came up behind me to the left and tracked me to the next light.
He rolled down his window and pointed out that I did not have a front plate. I told him I had an appointment to have the bracket drilled and he let me go. Just letting Maryland Corvette owners know that this is not an option. I installed the plate today. Hopefuly that will keep them from messing with me about the 9500CI Radare detector and Mild 2 wild mod.

He must have had something against vetts. I drove around MD for 25 years in several different cars none of them with a front plate and was never bothered by any leo.

and maybe not; that was then and this is now. in this time of v. tight budgets, it is a revenue generator, and an easy one. that he let him off means he was having a good day, however that may be defined. consider yourself lucky if you get let off w/o a fine.

There have been efforts to repeal the front plate law here in Maryland and each time it comes up for a discussion the State Police and local LEOs get the bill defeated.

I got away with it for 3 years, until one of Maryland's finest got me at RT 1 and 175. 60 dollars. I bought the Top Flight mount for my 2005 and then one for my 2009. Wasn't worth it to me. I've even been complimented on how nice the plate looks with the Cyber Grey plate surround. -- eddie

It sounds nice to live in a place that is so crime free that the troopers have nothing better to do than watch C6 front plates...it sounds like a paradise. Here in Utah, they have too many hundreds of miles of open highway to actually patrol, they don't have time for nonsense like that.

2+ years without any problems, but I know it is just a matter of time, and I have the TopFlight bracket ready to go when that time comes. I've been eyeballed by law enforcement officers and normally they just smile. I keep my DoD sticker on the car hoping it might help.

I was at my shooting club yesterday and I was standing out front of the clubhouse drinking my coffee and I happened to notice that of the eleven cars parked across the front row- five of them did not have a license plate.

IMO Ifigure sooner or later your gonna get a cop that's gonna ticket you,a lot depends on how often you drive the car if its a daily driver your risks of getting ticketed increase dramatically if your a weekender not so much, years back I owned a 1974 Corvette a daily driver at the time and it took about a year before I got pulled over for it, nowadays I have a 2005 not a daily driver but sooner or later I figure I'm gonna break down and buy the Top Flight set up just don't need the hassle of being pulled over.

Come on, Maryland State Trooper didn't have anything against Corvettes by pointing out the lack of a front tag. It is his job! Could have written a ticket but didn't. It is the stupid state requirement for a front tag that is the problem. Use to live in Gambrills, Md outside Crofton Md. so I am very aware of the requirement. Have a nephew who is a PG County police officer and into cars so he is not going to waste his time or yours on the front tag thing. Even so cops in the DC area have bigger fish to fry than to focus on the lack of a front tag but on a slow day they might in force the stupid requirement. Front tag on a Corvette is ugly and takes away from look of the car. It is what it is.

Washington state has the same requirement although most of the Vette owners I know including myself, do not comply. I was stopped once 6 years ago in my C5 by a local LEO who had nothing better to do than stop me as I was driving through a residential area...fine was $45.
In the 3 1/2 weeks that I've had my C6, several LEO's have seen the front end of the car but have not yet bothered to make the lack-of-a-front-plate an issue.
Now excuse me while a go find some wood to knock on.
