Is choice between auto and manual a preference related to age?
Is there a general trend for corvette owners as they get older to switch from manual transmission to automatic or is this totally unrelated to the aging process? What is the preference of first time buyers let us say starting in their late fifties or older?

I drove manuals until one day I got stuck on the GSP here in Jersey. When I got home I could hardly move my left leg. Its been auto since them. I really think it is just a preference, not some macho thing.

Bought my 2005 when in my late 50's--STICK. Bought my 2009 when in my mid 60's--STICK. I'd have a problem buying an automatic Vette. Probably would just by a Buick or something--No disrespect intended--eddie

At soon to be 63 in Jun. Had them both and my 09 man stick isl more fun to drive. For me had a hard time controlling the power with the A6 which had a Procharger. This Callaway makes me much happier now...

Not age related... There was a survey on this forum recently that put that idea to bed. 70 years old and driving a Z06...

It might be the opposite of what you think....maybe the younger generation has never driven a manual shift. I was 50 when I bought my C6. Unless for some reason I couldn't drive a stick, I wouldn't want an automatic in a high performance car. Never say never I suppose...if Corvette ever offered a truly precise 'seamless' paddle shirt I could be pursuaded.

Last Vette I had with an automatic was my 71LS6 that I purchased in 75. Sold in 87 to purchase an 86 with a manual. I am 70 now and I still go with the manual. Auto's are good for drag racing and traffic but not too good on the track or at an autocross.

Definitely not age related there have been forum surveys on this subject. Many people prefer the auto who drag race, others because of traffic conditions.
I have the manual and for me the fun factor, banging the gears, and all that other foolishness makes it the only tranny for me.

I'm 73 and can't remember ever not having a manual for one of my auto's. I bought my 2005 in 05 and ordered it with the MZ6. If I were buy another one today I would still get a manual.

My first 2009 Coupe was an A6 and enjoyed a lot, however, I upgraded to a Grand Sport Centennial with M6 - 61 years young and very happy with the change. I love the thrill of hitting the gears.

Age has nothing to do with it. I drive boring automatic trucks/vans all day every day. It's been the same since I was 16....when I drive for fun it has been and always will be a manual.

69 years old. Auto in my daily driver sedan and in my 100% stock 1964 Corvette. Manual in my restored 56 Vette and my 09 Z06. I guess you could consider me Bi.

I was just going to say, if my wife had her way mine would be an automatic, but that is also partly why mine is a stick..... There are days where an auto would be more comfortable, but I did not buy my C6 to be comfortable....
