I assume your car is equipped with the NPP exhaust, which has vacuum-operated flaps that open around 3500 rpm...
that is what you are hearing.
Most of us love that sound and install a "mild-to-wild" (M2W) switch to allow us to open the flaps at any rpm...
Does it painfully hurt your ears, or are you just not used to it ?

OP,
You must be used to driving very quiet cars. Many members here go to great lengths to make the vette louder than factory stock.
What kind of cars have you driven prior to the vette?
And Gary, above, makes a good point - if your vette has the NPP exhaust and is opening up on acceleration - as it's designed to do - that may be what you're experiencing.

Ok, I'll bite, most here enjoy the sound you are trying to muffle or eliminate, in fact there are quite a few aftermarket exhaust systems that feed the need for more sound, horse power, etc. etc. so your question was already answered, if you don't like the volume of your stock exhaust, slow down! From around 1000 to 2000 rpm the system is rather mild and you'd be averaging about 60 to 65 mph. On the other hand you could invest a LOT of money trying to fine tune your system to your individual taste, now my question to you, Why did you purchase a GS Corvette? Good luck in your quest, put on your flack jacket,

If that level of noise is causing that much pain in your right ear, I honestly think you need to see a doctor and have your ear checked. The stock Corvette does not have an exhaust with injurious decibel levels. Something is wrong with your ear.

^ I do tend to agree. While the elevated exhaust note is louder when the flaps are open, it is not that loud.

OK boys...cut the guy some slack already. He's just asking for some advice. JOPA201, if you have the dual mode mufflers, you could dis-able the straight-thru feature. Just disconnect (and plug) the vacum lines at the mufflers or disconnect the linkage at the mufflers. Pulling the fuse might do it as well. You could also tone it down a bit by installing a Corsa "touring" intermediate pipe that has small resonators built into them. And there's also foam ear-plugs or Bose Noise Canceling Headphones. Be persistent and you'll get it figured out.

You might consider replacing your NPP mufflers with factory stock units. Contact either Gene Culley at GM Parts House or Kevin Cassimore at Parts Taxi (both forum vendors) for the best price. Your NPP system could be easily sold here in the C6 Parts for Sale section of the forum.

Although I'm agreement that the GS with NPP isn't that loud, here is a link to a thread that might help. This mod give a user the ability to change at what RPMs the flaps open for the more aggressive sound. All the best and I hope this helps.

Are you sure it is the stock exhaust? Did you buy the car new or used? Maybe it is some sort of aftermarket setup?

Did you buy the car new or used?
Is it loud All the time or only when you give it a lot of gas?
I presume you know all exhausts will get louder the more gas you give it, but...
Stock exhaust are Really quiet and ...
if it's the stock NPP exhaust, even that is very quiet until you nail the gas or the RPM's reach 3500 and the flaps open.
If it's loud All the time, right from idle, ... it's Not the stock exhaust

This must be a pre-owned purchase with aftermarket exhaust. A friend of mine just bought the same year I have except his had stock exhaust and I teased him it sounded like a honda accord. There's no way a stock exhaust can hurt your ears. Swap if for a stocker and you'll be fine.
