There's nothing you can really do about that, but laugh it off and snap it back in place.

I think of it as a "touch start", push even conveys to much pressure.

I for some odd reason have done this from day one, even before hearing about the problem.

It's not particularly common but not odd either. If there's a way for something to come apart it will.

Wow, thanks for the post and the pic! The starter button has always felt solid and I never gave it much thought but I will now.

I had to laugh at the video they shipped with my '09. The lady demonstrating the push to start feature looks like she's pushing with all her might.

I put in a Carbon fiber dash. I had to remove that switch and reinstall into my new one. It just snaps into place. You must have pushed awfully hard for that to happen. I had to fight to R&R mine.

Is this plastic trim tool something you should have in the vette at all times? Where do you get those?

Got mine at harbor freight.

Many other styles available too. The above set is nice. Never needed to dip into the other sets I have (yet).

Yup. Had to reach in and put my incredible fingering abilities to use but the button still worked deep inside the dash.

In your case though I'd guess it just wasn't snapped in there all the way.
Same EXACT thing happened to me when I was installing my hydrocarbon cluster bezel last weekend. Didn't heat it up but did finally get it to snap into place. PITA.

I can imagine the replay. Dude sprints from out of the scene screaming with excitement, dives into the car and smacks the start button... Aw, Crap...
