08 M6 didn't want to crank. Thoughts?
Last night it had some hesitation when cranking but fired up. Today, I would push in the clutch push the start and just one click, everything else was working fine. When I let out the clutch the gauges would do their usual "flip" as I call it. Kept on with one click every attempt. Popped the hood, tried to wiggle the battery connections, then it hesitated next attempt and fired up. Been fine the rest of the day. Battery says 14.3 volts. But what's up with the click when it didnt crank? Alternator? Starter? Electrical issue? Connection? I'm guessing it's going to quit cranking at some point. What you guys think?

From your description, I would say that you have a poor connection at the battery terminals or a battery that is failing. When my '08 acted like that, the battery was shot and needed to be replaced.

14.3 means that's what it's charging at, not what the batt. is at. push bottom of start button and hold it. when DIC comes on move to batt. volts.
see what it says. should be 12 or greater I think. but fr. what you describe, you need a new batt. unless there really is a loose connection.

While a surface charge may show good voltage (but not 14.3), the battery may give up when a load is placed on it. No car battery will show 14.3 unless the engine is on and the alternator is charging it.

IF you have an '08? and are still on the original battery you have been pushing your luck for sometime..Your "hesitation" in cranking was your subtle warning of a battery going bye-bye. Get a load test and it will probably fail.

Really? My '08 has never shown any signs of what has been described above. Now, mine has never been on a trickle charge, and it has only once sat for 3 weeks without being started ... even during the winter. Wonder if this phenomenon you're describing has anything to do with winter storage/trickle chargers?

Also check for damage/corrosion at the starter solenoid connectors.

I have an 06, but the symptoms sounds similar to mine. It just clicks once and no issue with the battery.
It was the starter. Ive actually had to replace mine twice. The post on the starter just cracks off. From what I've read, it is because of the proximity to the headers. I guess it gets really hot and then when it cools off, it starts to crack.
Just my $.02...Good Luck with whatever your issue turns out to be.

Your battery needs to changed. The battery will show the correct voltage but will have little cranking amperage. You get very little warning of impending failure, The lights and radio will work etc, but the engine wont crank (you just get a solonoid click). And this failure point is random, it could happen within one year or it could me as long as 6 to7 years, but when it happens the symptom will be the same. Just replace the battery and the car will be fine!!

As others have stated, the battery may show OK during one test and nothing the next. The other componets to check are the battey cables (particulary the ground) and the starter motor itself. I would try a new battery first (one with at least 600 + CCA capacity) and see what happens. good luck.

1) Have the alternator checked for actual output V.
2) Check starter connections, looking for loose or burned wires.
3) Don't be fooled by a weak battery, get a load test. A dieing battery is often at the root of many headaches reported with the C6. Learned this, firsthand.
A good clue your issue's with the ECM IF other items have been checked & ruled out.

Since the battery and alternator both check out the next step is to check for a loose cable connection as others have suggested. IMHO the connectors at the battery suck. I had one on my 04 that when the bolt was tight I could still turn the connector on the post. Later! Frank
