had a dealer add 2 quarts over,it didn't do what you described, the dealership took full responsibility and noted it would cover and problems should they come up.lean on the dealer they screwed up big time.

It's hard to believe that this still happens at the dealerships. The dry sumps have been around long enough for them to know how to change oil on them.

I always have my tuner do all the work on my car. They always change my fluids for free as long as i buy the filters and oil and i tip the tech good.
Could not agree more. I think I was in shock.

Did you look at the under carriage at all? If oil spilled/ran down the engine it could have leaked onto a number of components that have rubber in them such as suspension parts. Oil and rubber components/bushings do not mix and will fail prematurely. Just a thought.

Just saying...
I'm sure most, if not all, in the service dept. are aware of the big mistake that could've been worse this customer was put through. I'd be willing to bet this will not happen again on a dry sump engine at this dealership. They screwed up once, doubt it will happen again. OP will probably go to a different dealer for oil/filter service, but that would'nt stop me from getting in writing a Lifetime Oil Change work order for the OP. Doesn't mean he will go back there, but don't tell them that. Just saying.

Thanks for all the input! I have a meeting with the dealership tomorrow so I'll be sure to let you know what happens.

What dealer was this? GM should also do away with the sealed oil cap on the valve cover and then maybe this wouldn't happen as often.

Pellegrino Chevrolet. Lesson is make sure you are confident your dealer is aware of the unique set up.

normally, oil goes all over the engine compartment when one doesn't put the cap back on.

Don't worry about the backseat drivers.....with the issues at hand, yeah shock, and if the biggest thing on your mind was getting a $70 refund then your way off the mark in terms of what is important. Your concern was the car....Refund for the oil change is and was the last thing to worry about. Note, your NOT gonna get free oil changes for life, sorry.

Issue is how much oil did they drain, how much was really added and where/how did they add it. Check the 'sealed' aka NOT to be used oil cap- does it move, did they break that sealed cap?

1 Your forgetting this car is nothing more
than a Chevrolet, an over priced Chevrolet.
2 YOU left your car with GM's toothless, mindless
sevice people, YOU forgot to tell them how special
YOUR Chevrolet was.
3 1/2 quart (maybe) overfill...no big deal...only 4000+miles...
plenty of warranty left.
4 now the wizards of advice crawl out..free oil changes
for life...extendend warranty...this car ain't no LAMBO,
it's a Chevrolet, and built no better than any other
chevy.

Get a grip and drive it, or get an attorney and ask for
a new replacement car.

Sorry for your trouble, but it is probably just fine.
so quit worriing....remember..WARRANTY.

Your mission: get a good nights sleep.

You mean just run it on a Dyno or actually have it tuned?....May want to hold off on a tune to preserve that warranty.

anyone catch the part where the op mentions having headers and a tune already? Good luck filing a warranty claim down the road with altered equipment......GM has you by the ***** on this.

Despite their mistake, an engine failure down the road with a modified tune means your screwed.

Oil changes are not performed by mechanics or techs at a dealership....it gets to the quick lane and they have several pimple faced HS drop outs performing the work and the are dumber than a sack full of hammers....Change it yourself or if you don't have the place or tools to do it....STAND there and supervise the operation....if the dealership wont let you...find another one

Why would you let the dealer change the oil? Seasoned techs do not change oil.
