Default White residue on interior - dash/side panels.

I tried the Murphy's Oil Soap like GM advised which I found on a thread here on the sight and it really did work - thanks for posting. Wondering if this problem will stop with time.

Actually, I think you will find that most of the time, if you keep up with it regularly and not let it accumulate, that just wiping with a damp cloth will remove it fine. Common issue though.

On our 2001, then 2006, and now 2009; we just wiped the dash with a damp towel whenever it got too dusty or the white stuff started to appear.

These cars were/are all daily drivers, often parked out in the sun, and we only need to wipe down the dash about 3-4 times per year.

Wiping with water will not work. The chlorine in the water is what causes the white residue. Try 303 instead.

H20 like Rick says will work....so will almost any Interior detailer..... the white stuff will be back eventually.. . common issue and no big deal.....(we all know that Vette owners have nothing better to do then mod/clean) their cars anyway.....lol

This comment ranks right up there with:
  • All Corvettes coming of the factory assembly line are quarrantined for a 2-week quality hold before being released for shipment to dealers.
  • All LS3 engines are dynoed; the ones with the most power are specifically assigned to Grand Sport Coupes with manual transmissions.

Can you spell ?

The white residue is caused by gasses emitted from the vinyl used on the dash and door panels. It absolutely, positively washes off easily with plain water.

Then why, since I've used 303 protectant, I don't have it any more. It's because the water I was using is full of alkalines, which was drying in all the creaveses, which was drying white.

It's because the 303 has "sealed" the vinyl. Has nothing to do with the water. If the water was causing the issue, then who wipes the interior down at the factory with water before you get your car to start the process?

I can't explain your experiences. I've had my C6 with ebony interior for nearly 7 years. I notice the white residue approximately every 6 months. When I do, I wipe everything down with a microfiber cloth soaked in plain warm water. It gets rid of the residue and I don't see it again for another 6 months or so. I've never used anything but plain water.

I would guess that it is turning white because it is drying out. I have always used Armour- All on my dashboards and it keeps them moist and gives it a shiny appearance. I would be hesitant to use water on vinyl or leather. Water always has turned leather white from my experience. And it usually has a certain amount of lime. It should be OK on a plastic dashboard to clean it. But I would still put a moisturizer of some type on it afterwards.

Perhaps that is what the "GM" solution in the SB does with with soap oil they recoomend ? Anyway it worked fine and looks great better that when I just just used a damp cloth to wipe dn.

I tried the Zaino leather treatment stuff....don't recall the name...and its been gone for like a year now. Before that it was HORRIBLE. Can't believe GM would come out with such a crappy material inside any car.

Challengers are the worst pictures of this issue I have ever seen. Corvette owners, take a look at the dash in this 2009 Challenger and your problems won't seem so bad...

These cars leave the factory looking perfect. Then 3-6 months down the road after the product has "cured" it begins to show signs of this white residue from outgassing. In the case of Challengers, it seemed to be linked with cooler temperatures for some reason. This guy eventually got his dash cleaned up and looking good. But it's still not pleasant to look at.

303 does get the job done. But on contact points, such as the arm rest, the 303 will wear off causing the white to show again. I use 303 throughout the interior maybe every 6 months, with touch up to touched areas every few months.

The car is garaged always driven 6,000 miles yearly. Very seldom will sit outside parked even when driven.

Others may get different results as sun exposure and heat may play a role.

Good stuff the 303.
