Default good year tires on 2011/2012 g.s.

looking on the vet website i noticed that 2011 g.s.'s came standard with goodyear gen 1 supercar tires.gen 2 came with the f55 option.the 2012 g.s.'s come standard with gen2 supercar tires. according to goodyears website(http://www.goodyear.com/en-US/tires/...h-tire-results) the gen 2 have better grip in wet conditions.cannot seem to find any wear data...anyone use both sets of tires on their car?tread patterns are really different.just curious.thanks j.k.

Goodyear shows both the Gen 1 and the Gen 2 as having a 220 wear rating.

the gen2 cost more then the gen 1..........but goodyear says they perform in wet weather.......when i got 2011 at bowling green last year and drove it home, got caught in rain on a 2 lane road that was worn and car hydorplaned real easy...........not fun.curious if gen 2's less prone to hydroplaning?......j.k.

I do not know about the wet driving conditions as I do not drive my 11 GS in (Florida) rain however G2's are stickier, more comfortable, less harsh and quieter than G1's. I am very happy with them!. Yes, both have a thread wear rating of 220, no one had them long enough to put that to the test. I guess we will have to wait and see.

I had GEN1's on my 2008 vette and they scared me on wet roads, especially after about 10K on the tires. HOWEVER....

I got 13k out of GEN2's on the front of my '11 with F55 suspension, and have been trying hard to wear out the rears. Meaning, "smoking" them hard with a 2nd gear dump with the traction control off, and they now have close to 14k on them and probably have 40% tread. The reason is I want 4 new tires on the car, and I really thought in a week or so of having fun I could wear out the rears. Not true, and I've been trying hard, along without getting a ticket or being reckless. If you turn off the traction control, slow down to 5 mph, rev to 3k and dump the clutch/floor it, you will light them up, as you can with about any tire. These are holding up better than I expected.

We had some hard rains here in Florida yesterday, and I could not make them break loose with straight line full throttle acceleration in 2nd gear (with the nannies on). This was true from day 1, and continues today. The tread design seems to be the main reason.

So they hold very well on wet roads. They (like any other summer tire) spin easily until warmed up on any kind of road.

Not sure about that. For the GS, I think the Gen 2 comes only on the coupe with the manual (which also has the dry sump). I know that my A6 GS coupe with F55 did not come with Gen 2.

Replaced Gen 1's on my 11 GS after 16k with Gen 2's. You drive in the rain in Houston you slow down. I've never had a problem with either tire in the rain. I've got about 1k on the Gen2's. Sidewalls are stiffer and the ride is a bit rougher. The Gen 1's were better in the cold weather. Gen 2's seem better in the corners, but the weather still hasn't been warm enough to really stretch them out. I've also noticed the funky noise when turning at very low speed (parking lot/driveway) happens more frequently. Really doesn't matter, just thought it was interesting.

I think you have to get the Manual Trans and the Select Ride in order to receive the Gen 2 tires. However, I am not sure of this for 2012.

Had G2s on a 2011 GS Coupe 6spd. Had a steering wheel vibration problem above 70mph on the car with 500 miles on the odometer. Tried all kinds of fixes from wheels to tires to brakes/rotors and everything pointed to the tires. GY bought back the OEM G2s at retail and allowed me to purchase Michelin PS2s. My hats off to GY for buying back the OEM G2s tires. The Michelins are unbelievable and absolutely no vibrations at any speed.

Yes, sorry I wasn't clear. 2012 GS coupe with F55, Gen 2 tires if manual trans, Gen 1 if auto trans.

GOODYEAR® EAGLE F1 SUPERCAR GEN2 TIRES

These second-generation Goodyear Eagle F1 Supercar performance tires are designed to be street-refined and track-capable. They feature a race-inspired tread compound molded into a unique asymmetric and directional design that delivers dry-road traction as well as wet-road confidence. And their run-flat construction eliminates the need for a spare tire.

On Grand Sport models, these tires are included with available Magnetic Selective Ride Control and manual transmission.

Nither Gen can come close to matching the Michelin PS2 runflats. Better traction, much quieter and will last much longer.

I wondered the same thing until I bought the gen 2's for my non-F55 GS. The ride is a bit harsher. My guess is that with the F55 set to "touring" you wouldn't notice and with it set to "sport", you wouldn't care.
