Default Week from hell

So....this was my week..Monday, 1st on scene of a shooting, 20 y/o female dies in my arms. Tuesday, we have a stand off for 6 hrs with nut who wants to end it. He doesn't. Wednesday, my partner wrecks out route to a disturbance, other passenger who cut in front of him dies.
I end up next on a hostage situation laid out on a grassy median as point AR 15 for 6 1/2 hrs...he stabs himself.
Strangely, I'm ok with all this until I'm driving my 05 coupe to work the next day, can't avoid a deep dip/separation in road, and literally bounce the front left wheel. The aluminum frame, I guess skid plate, cracks, wheel line rips off, tears front balance off and drives up into engine compartment breaking the radiator shroud.
That sucks. I actually filed a claim with the state, and they said get 2 estimates, but they don't guarantee they'll pay it.
Damage amounts to around $2800. Air bag light is on and active handling.
That's the straw.....
We shall see.

I can relate, the ladder I used to get on the roof today was blown down. I sat there for an hour waiting for someone to come by and put it back up.

I just do not know what to say, except thank you for your service & committment to your community, and to the American
way of life.

Although quite aggravating, and certainly not to belittle it, you will get your car fixed...

Sorry to hear all that terrible stuff happening, sounds like you and your partner had some really bad luck.

In my 30 years there were many times like that. It sucked for sure and i'm glad its behind me. The worst was dealing with dead children and having to give death notices.

Sorry for the damage to the car but it can be repaired. Out here, the state would pay almost any claim as long as it was under $1000.

Thanks for your service, stay safe out there!

Wait a minute. Your ok with this until your wreck your own car that you where driving? A 20 old girl died and your worried about your Vette? I have owned 2 Vettes. A 08 and now a 2011 ZR1 and if I wrecked or damaged them I would of been maybe upset? Thanks for serving and protecting but you have issues if a girl being killed does not bother you more than a car? Bro that car can be fixed!

Not sure he meant it that way at all, us who serve the public, whether police, fire, ems, armed troops etc..............have to desensitize these terrible tragedies or we would be the ones pulling the triggers on ourselves. I fully understand what he meant.
OP, been there, done that, think of all the good you have done and people you have saved!

Racer I hope so. I understand how hard that job is and I say thank you to ALL that serve! But a life can't be replaced. The Vette not really a big deal. So thanks for serving, the car will be ok!

I wouldn't count on the state paying for anything.

Well on the bright side, at least you made it home OK this week. Thanks for your service.

Guys,
I've been working the hood for 15 years now, my choice. Of course I feel for those who suffer the misfortune of crime in the city, but if I allow it to consume me, I become ineffective.
My Vette, on the other hand , is my escape from harsh realities I deal with every day. It's my "Delorean time machine" so to speak, that takes me back to better, younger days. Days when I didn't have to deal with death and destruction every day.
Sooooo, when my sweet escape is injured, then I feel bad. Allow me the luxury, God Bless General Motors.

Well said! I come from a family of LEOs. The job is a thankless one. And many of the people that lose their lives daily that you encounter have brought their circumstances down upon themselves.

Thanks for your service to community and I hope your baby is fixed up better than new quickly!!!!

IMHO, do that for 30 years in NYC. No cop I know would EVER talk like that. Ever. Your job has nothing to do with your car.

Wow!
Memphis has ignominiously led the nation in crime for quite awhile. If you haven't walked the walk.....
Nor do you know me, or what I actually do. What I said was a week in a 15 year career that I love, regardless of the downs. The fact that I immensely enjoy escaping the harsh realities of urban decay and crime by owning and driving a Corvette has everything to do with feeling good.
And Southern law enforcement is not NYPD.
Sorry I don't fit your expectations.
