Default Getting Ready to Buy First Corvette

Wife and I just turned 40 and decided to get a Corvette as our gift for 20 years of marriage. I've been looking through this forum quite a bit and really like all the great info on it. I have my eye on an 07 in Monterey Red with about 8k miles on it (original owner). I'm second in line, as the first guy is having problems getting financing and he has until 2pm tomorrow to come up with the funds. He's asking $31,500 for it. Also found an 06 with 15k miles for the same price. Never owned anything quite like this, it's more of a reward for each other for surviving 20 years together

We'd probably put about 4-5K miles on it a year as we have our regular cars for commuting. I've got the insurance quotes and they're right around 1K for the year. Just curious what you folks think about this year (seems like everything I've read is positive) and if there are any other shopping tips I should consider before pulling the trigger.

Thank you!

Only suggestion I would have, try to step up to an '08, if you can. Most will tell you to buy the newest one that you can afford.
That being said, you should find plenty low mileage cars, that are just like new.
Congrats on 20 years of marriage!

This link will show you the difference between 05s to 08s.

I agree with the above. I would certainly try to go for the 08 and up. If I had waited one more year, I wouldn't be looking at a new one today. Take your time and good luck.

Thanks everyone for the replies, very helpful. I have been emailing back and forth with a dealer that's a few hundred miles away about an 08 he just got it. Has 6,800 miles, and he's pretty firm on $32,999 (or so he says). It's silver in color, looks pretty good. Dealer says it's a one owner car and the guy was 73 that they got it from, but who knows if they's being straight. I've seen some with what must be a nav system, this one doesn't have it. Here's a couple pics:

I would find a Corvette no older than the 2008 model series with acceptable miles. The changes in the 2008 -- 2012 model years are worth your shopping time and a few additional $'s.

Good luck on the hunt and welcome to the forum.

You won't regret going for the 08 or newer. IMO

This one appears to be a base car, look for the 3LT Package that gives you some nice extras like Heads up display, heated seats memory package and more

I bought my 2011 at Boardwalk (I saw the sign in the background of the picture), they're a great Vette dealership. Good luck with your purchase!!!

That 08 silver one looks like a 1LT, since I see no controls on the wheel. I'm not real up on all the differences, so making a guess there.

Check the first car on the list here that Tommy Jr. has. It's a new '12 1LT for under $46k It may be worth the pain of a higher payment if you can swing it.

http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c6-d...gs-coupes.html

Thats his out the door no BS price, you just need to inquire about shipping. You may qualify for more discounts on top of that. If you have a current GM vehicle, thats $1000 off. If you have a GM card you can use all your GM dollars right now. GM financing is 3.9% for 60/mo. Works out to $18.37 per $1000 financed.

Regarding the GM card, I know... I'm going to meet Tommy Jr. on saturday to do the paperwork on that 2LT GS Torch Red , I had over $4k on my GM card!!

Dont worry about the lack of a factory NAV unit; an aftermarket Garmin works much better. The base radio/CD player has far better sound than the extra-cost Bose system. A 3lt interior is nice, but heated seats in your area are a waste, and "heads-up" displays have problems of their own. A 2lt interior provides side airbags which the 1lt doesn't; not important unless a cell phone user slams into the side of your car. 67,800 miles means the car is barely broken in. Take your time to get the right Vette for you.

You definitely want one with Heads Up Display - it's one of the coolest features on the Vette. I rarely look at my dash and it's much safer because you're eyes are always on the road.

Also, when I bought my car I specifically did NOT want the stock radio/Nav system that GM has. It sucks. So I got the base unit and then immediately had it swapped out for a top of the line Kenwood head unit that gave me not only Garmin NAV, but it also plays DVDs (of which I only "watch" concerts, so I'm listening to music but can watch the performers at the stop lights ), hands free bluetooth, back up camera, iPod connectivity, voice activation, etc., etc. Bottom line, don't fret if the car you find doesn't have NAV.

Congrats! and have fun shopping. There are PLENTY of deals to go around.

BTW, did you check the C6 For Sale section here? Here's a link:

A forum dealer just had an '11 or '12 base for $39k on the dealer inv. page. Spend a little more and get a brand new one. Have them ship it to you. You don't need to test drive it. I bought an '05 and a '08 without test driving either. The '05 was for my 40th. And the '08 was for my wife's 40th.

I too would recommend getting a 08 and newer model. Good luck with your future purchase.

Just wanted to thank you all for the great advice. It's great to come to a website and ask a question and not get slammed for being ignorant! Truly appreciate it. We're just starting our search and I think I got overwhelmed by seeing a car with less than 10K miles on it and felt like I better jump on it. Looks like the best course is to grab some patience and find the right car for us. Thanks again and I look forward to talking with more of you!

<------ 2008 3LT purchased 2 years ago from CarMax, Roseville. Thats fairly close to your location, DivotMaker.

Look for a 3LT if you can. You'll like the HUD, heated seats, and NAV. When I was car hunting, used 3LTs were not much more expensive than the base model.

How about a one-owner 2010 with 1800 miles and some $$$ add-ons for only $36,500? And it's torch red!
