C6 Speaker Upgrade ?'s
I've seen Double D's Kicker package - looks good. Any other recommendations out there - Alpine, Polk Audio, ...??? Also, looks like the door panels are a real PITA to get off/reinstall. Who sells the OEM replacement pins in the event I hose up 1 or 2???
And ... killing the center speaker on the 3LT Bose setup really works???

The "General Corvette - Audio/Electronics" sub-forum had some good threads on this topic.
Went into specifics on why killing the center speaker helps and tips on not cutting the right wire.

Door panels are not that difficult but there are some tricks that help - small amount of grease on the metal tabs at the top, use some string around each tab to help pull it up over the door metal after pins are partly set in the mounting holes etc, there are several how-to's on this in the audio section. I got spare pins from clips and fasteners.com the code A21347 is the GM trim panel grommets with sealer corvette 10351052 (eight bucks!) and A21346 is GM trim panel retainers with sealer 10350983 (11 bucks!). I disconnected the center speaker on my 3LT Bose setup, really helps, sounds like 'stereo' again. For rears I replaced with Focal PC-130's BIG difference, for doors I used Kicker DS35's and also that was an improvement. Overall was worth it IMHO

I bought the kickers for my 10 GS vert. I broke 3 of the tabs taking off the door panels. Had the dealer get me 3 new tabs, took 2 days. Tried the generic ones from the body shops, but they don't fit as well so I went ahead and got the OEM version. $5.90 each plus tax.
The door panels are not difficult. I just took a wire, a little smaller guage than a clothes hanger, starting on the hinge side, and standing on the exterior side of the door, just lift a little a pull towards you and goes right in. As the directions stated in the thread, start with the bottom tabs and insert about half way. You will be amazed at how simple it is.
I also disconnected the center speaker. Very simple.
Just noticed your from St. Louis. I ordered my tabs from Elco.
Have Fun.

If your not doing an AMP, Go with the Kicker Package...The Price is right, the dealer throws in the connectors for the speakers, and you have step by step instructions here on the forum if you get stuck...Seriously try the 79.99 route first and disconnect that center speaker......If your not happy with it guarentee knock a few bucks off and someone from here will buy them from you...So realistically, you would have 10-15 dollars lost if you didnt like the Kicker Package.

I do have it and honestly it made a world of difference...you can feel bass on your leg and the sound quality is pretty damn good! I wasnt sure either and as I told you if I didnt like them I was gonna flip em with minimal loss.....But ends up they are a cheap but way effective solution, and yes Onstar will still work.....I really think Double D Owes me some endorsement money!

The Double D speakers really are great for the money, I had no trouble with the pins, but one of the pin holding tabs broke, so out comes the epoxy! The epoxy worked great, and the clarity of the speakers is much better than stock. I have the Blose Nav system, 09 vert.

I have the center channel for OnStar and I have Hertz Milles in the doors probabably too expensive for some of you cheapos out there but the speakers are amazing. Going to do the JL Audio Stealthboxes behind the Vert seats so should provide some good bass despite my clubs in the trunk. Have an HD/900 JL Audio amp driving it all.
