CAGS eliminator... Anyone try this one yet???

It is a fuse that is supposed to trick out the CAGS. It is not clear to me how it works. Has anyone here tried it? Does it set any codes or the check engine? I have read in other threads that just pulling the fuse sets the check engine warning similar to unplugging the solenoid. I do not want to buy a fuse that is just blown already.

It works, but you can make your own. Go to an auto store and get a 'smart fuse' It has an LED built into it to let you know when it fails. Go home and jump it with the battery and blow it. Now only the led is working. This provides the circuit with just enough resistance to trick the car into thinking everything is still connected but not enough to activate the solenoid. Completely out or disconnected will set the code.
The led may be unidirectional. If it is not working, pull it out and flip it and try again.
10 pack / $8

I put a blown "Smart Fuse" in at the parking lot of the Corvette Museum when I took delivery of my 2009 back in Sep of 2008...still working fine 3+ years later.
No reason to pay fifteen bucks for a $1.00 fuse that you can pick up at just about any parts store!

To give credit where credit is due, Craig Leres came up with this idea years ago. Long before internet sellers started blowing fuses and selling them for $15.00+ per copy.

The cags thing's a pain, and got the rear plug in resistor deal. Ended up putting in a Diablo Sport hand held tune that wipes out the whole thing, including the dash light, and gave the resistor module to another member in FL. Maybe a little more expensive option, but works for me. Some say, why bother, but I frequently work in large commercial complexes with low speed limits and lots of stop signs. This darn thing was always kicking in.

Wow great advice! I already have some "smart" fuses in the garage already. I will prepare one and have it ready for when my car arrives.
Thanks all.

I want to try this too.
But can someone just provide the specifics around blowing the fuse? I just want to do it right.
Thanks!

The blown fuse fix doesn't always works, but I know it's not often. However, for the **** retentive, you want a permanent fix. And that is a CAGS eliminator or a properly modified fuse with an SMD resistor soldered inside a fuse. Both cost about the same, so as a DIY person, I bought the external CAGS eliminator (with OEM plugs) that I know will never fail. If I wasn't a DIY guy, I'd have bought the modified switch with soldered resistor, not a blown LED one. Your call .

Just go to Radio Shack and get a pack of resistors ,5 for $1.20.
Part #271-1128. 22000 ohm 1/2 watt resistor. Use one and give 4 to your friends. Had mine on my 05 since 9/04 without a problem.

Also used an LED Fuse (Not a Smartfuse, but different brand)...
Not sure how the rest of the LED Fuses are designed, but the one I got had a small hole between the two fuse pins allowing 'access' to the inside. Instead of using a battery to blow it, I found it easier to stick a tiny flathead screwdriver in it and with a quick little tap, broke the fuse connection.
Works perfectly.

Rather than "blow the fuse" simply snip the fuse link
I did this with Bussmann easyID fuse, no problems to date.

I have the fuse but never installed it. I drive aggressively enough that the CAGS parameters are seldom ever met. A short time after getting my car the skip-shift became a non-problem. I thought about asking my dealer to reprogram one of the CAGS parameters to disable it but kind of forgot about it.
