Default is this engine noise normal?

Sounds like loose change on drivers side. Can really only be heard by putting head(or camera) around brake fluid area. Never noticed the noise until I had a tapping sound a few weeks ago coming home from the gym(went away after I turned off then restarted the engine). No power loss, no oil loss, just this weird metallic whirring sound on the driver side. Not the alternator.

any feedback is greatly appreciated. Recorded with iphone so you may have to adjust your volume.

My hearing is shot from years of installing audio equipment, but I don't hear anything that sounds different from my two previous C6's, or my current.

Probably the air conditioning compressor. It has a tendency to rattle against the frame, so I'm told.

Sounds like mine too. Mine seems the loudest in the same area as yours, but I have a case of OCD with any little noise from my car

Yeah tell me about it. Never would of noticed it had I not had a "tap, tap, ,tap sound that went away went I turned the car off and restarted it. Came out of nowhere. No I focus on that one area lol. Car drives fine but i feel like something up with this "loose change rattle/whirring sound" even thought it could have very well been there before.

turn your volume up if possible, the rattle starts 10 seconds into the video. it's not super loud as i have to put my head by the brake fluid to hear it but i just wanted to see what others thought.

Purring like a kitten to me . Sounds like a LSx. You certainly don't have harmonic balancer issues.

You don't have the engine cover on. The cover could silence or lower the noise.

I took the cover off to see if I could pinpoint the noise better. Sounds like its somewhere in-between the valve cover and header. Here's one with the cover on, sounds like a whistling noise as i move the phone in and out(turn volume up, recorded with phone)

I've listened to another 2008 in person and didn't hear it so I got concerned of course

It's actually pretty darn quiet man; consider yourself lucky. It could be a very small exhaust leak if at all, but nothing of concern. Just drive it, and unless it gets worse over time, when it's obvious something is wrong, don't even bother taking it to a dealer. Mine was 10 times louder than yours, and was told it was normal . Take care.

I was hearing a clicking noise in my 05 that would last until the engine warmed up. I think it is the AC clicking on and off. But I think that is on the passenger side.

If you get a large flexible hose (say 2 -3 inches diameter), you can put one end of it up to your ear and use the other end to probe around the engine.

I've used that method to locate vacuum leaks and other engine problems.

Hope its nothing serious.
