I have always liked the GS and I see this model as special, but at the same time, as a Z06 owner, I believe that putting the Z06's LS7 engine in a car that looks identical to the Z06(sans roof), really hits below the belt. I don't begrudge anyone for wanting this special car, as it is a winner, but, at the same time, I'm feeling sad that GM just knocked the wind out of the Z06's sails. Kinda like sending a guy to the top of Mount Rushmore with a sledge hammer and replacing the Presidents with Mickey Mouse, Goofy, etc.

And have five years of high warranty costs and people blasting GM on this forum everyday for putting a transmission behind the LS7 that isn't up to handling the LS7's power. There is a reason the CTS-V and the Camaro ZL1 has the 6L90 transmission.

As someone posted, I think the only reason they don't offer the 427 with an Auto is they don't have an Auto they are confident will handle that power.

Z06 owner here just wanting to give some perspective.
The car looks like a winner for a certain demographic, but I have no envy or desire for the 427 Vert.
A convertible has a reduction in chassis rigidity and higher weight over fixed roof cars. Unless the car I really want comes only as a convertible (S2000, Boxster, etc) I prefer a fixed roof whenever possible (M3, 911, etc). The additional weight from the steel chassis is undesirable as well.
I think the car is targeted towards 'cruisers' and car show folks, not folks who want the highest performance or weekend track cars. Those guys know fixed roof and lower weight is the way to go, so the coupes would be the model to get.
The only thing that does bother me, is it reduces the uniqueness of the LS7. I don't hate this car by any means (or the GS for that matter, despite the constant whining from their owners) but the LS7 does feel a little less special now that it is in a 'cruiser' instead of a track car. The Z06 model designation is still special for a variety of reasons but its a bit of a bummer to see the badass LS7 put in a 'cruiser'.
Overall, I'm pretty neutral about the announcement. I'm glad theres another model and choice out there for those who want it, but not particularly thrilled the LS7 was put into a 'cruiser' that owners would never to the track. The people most bothered will be GS Vert owners who really wanted a 427 or Z06 guys who really wanted a convertible. I wanted a 427 coupe and the Z06 fits the bill perfectly.

It comes as no surprise that GM was going to have a bunch of special stuff for the 60th anniversary year of the Corvette. A 427 convertible is a nice addition. I am not all surprised that GM if offering a 60th anniv package that be had on any Corvette thereby lessening any "special" nature of the anniversary. I'm sure they will build as many as people are willing to pay more for.
The anniv color combo looks decent in pictures but I'd have to see it in person.

Don't you get a wet sump LS3 with the GS auto's? Maybe it's a fitment issue. I don't think a 6L80 would hold up behind an LS7, 6L90 would but maybe it won't fit in the rear of the Vette.
