Rear View Camera as an Option

I'd love to have a rearview camera in my vette. I have it in both of my Nissans (including the relatively inexpensive Juke) and it's very useful when positioning in parking and backing out of certain places.

When I replaced the 6 disc radio in my 2009 C6 back in June, I had the Pioneer Z130 installed with rear camera. Underneath the front bumper on my 2005 it looked like someone had taken a cheese grater to it. So far in 6 months and 6000 miles I have not put a mark on it. I back into all parking spots now and I'm a big fan of the back up camera. I have never been able to judge the front distance on this car, probably an age thing, I don't hear so good either(ha-ha)eddie

Not really needed in the Corvette or other cars for that matter as I seemed to have survived 25 years of driving without it. However it is on my wife's Yukon which does make it easier to move that big vehicle in tight places.

Get back to the dealer and give 'em he11 !
I'm annoyed because I can't find the rear seat area to install kiddie seats, like my sun visor said until the labels fell off.

Would kill for one on my Vette. Theres nothing worse than backing into a parking space and not being able to properly judge how much distance is between you and the wall behind you. Had a friend who pushed the limit a little to hard (with no camera) and backed gently into wall, still scraped up the paint pretty good. Actually it does get worse, if you try and pull in front first you have to worry about scraping the bottom of the car because you cant see that either.
Camera would work well in both scenarios. But the rear view is more important because the back end is very wide and you could be back over or into something extremely important. Either way.. its a car that starts at $50k, a camera costs $20 bucks and it weights 6oz. There's simply no excuse why it isnt available. My dad's $20k Toyota Tacoma came with a rear view camera standard, wasnt even a high priced option.

it will work on the newer vettes.you get a pro installer to have it installed.i do not see how it would void the warrenty, the nav unit already has the video inputs on it,because other gm cars with nav already have a working backup camera with the nav.my 2011 chevy traverse had nav and backup camera.do a search here on lockpic 360.lots of guys have them.

Rearview camera on C6
I put the lockpick 360 on my car and I love it. they have an even newer version out that should do a better job showing playlists. I suppose if you never parallel park you would not need it, but in tight quarters I find it very useful. I drive my Corvette all the time and take it everywhere. I also believe it is safer in the driveway. I am tall and can still turn, but find the visibility out the back very restricted. Also have the I pod interface and use it with my I phone for music. Not plug and play exactly, went to a custom shop and had it installed. I think it should be an option as well. Just my opinion.

As I understand, The NHTSA is still figuring out the rules, but their proposal had been to phase-in backup cameras for all new cars by 2014. This is definitely coming sooner or later. I'd expect to see it on the C7.

I'd be more interested in a front camera installation than a rear camera.

I'm not sure how obvious the change is.

Platinum Supporting Dealership
This is an error on the website. A backup camera is not an available option on 2012 Corvettes.
I pointed this out to Detroit so they can fix the problem.

I knew that going in but I wanted to call them out on it. Chevrolet called me today to apologize. Now lets see how long it takes them to correct the mistakes.
