C6 no marketing?
Just wondering what you guys think. Lately, it seems chevy only advertises the malibu, pickup trucks, volt, cruze, even camaro, but I never see an advertisement for vette. The only one I seen is America Builds Rockets. I know the economy is not the best, but there seems to be no push to advertise. Are they waiting to advertise the heck out of the c7, or GM is putting money else where to advertise volt, malibu, etc. What do guys think? I think a big superbowl commercial could help sales, but I doubt that will happen.

Great commercial.. Crazy that today's commercials have little import cars flying up & down streets with people driving like mad men. The VW commercials are the worst offenders. Too bad Chevy was so PC with this ad.

The C6 is end of life which typically doesn't warrant advertising dollars. Beyond that, everyone knows what the Corvette is and what it's about. Seems like a waste of money at this point in time.

GM has 'X' dollars to spend on advertising thus it is imperative for them to get the largest market penetration as possible with their dollars. For each dollar spent on advertising, the market for mundane 4 door sedans and pickups is much higher then for the Corvette.
Let's see....spend $1,000 in advertising and sell 10 sedans/pickups or spend $1000 in advertising and sell one Corvette.
The other thing to consider is the competition. There are tons of other brands of sedans/pickups for the consumer to choose from. GM has to spend advertising dollars to let the consumer know of it's products and why the consumer should buy their product. They have to as all the other brands are heavily advertising their sedans/pickups.
The selection of sports cars that are competitors of the Corvette is so small that the consumer pretty well knows what is available and the + & - of each sports car.

The economy has really dampered Corvette sales and the fact that the C6 is nearing it's end is probably why GM isn't spending alot on C6 advertising. Actually, the Corvette was never advertised that much with the exception of when the new generations were introduced. The Corvette is a very low volume model in GM's lineup. Infact for 2010 and 2011 the volumes built for Corvette are at a 50 year low! 2010-12,194 2011-13,596 you have to go back to 1961 (10,939) to get lower production numbers.

speaking of commercials i think 75 percent of the commercials on tv are for insurance companies...it would be a nice change to see corvette commercials but i know that wont happen

How about the current Corvette ad that states they have to take horse power out of it to enter competition.
It talks about the mods other cars do to race them. Not Corvette. I love that ad.

You don't see much about the Camaro either. Most people know what they want in high performance autos and dumping money into ads isn't going to show a big buyer increase.

In my neck of the woods I don't see many ads for GM in general. I think they're really missing the boat. Sometimes I see a Buick ad or full size Chevy truck ad. Once in a while a Cadillac ad.
I think they need to advertise much more. Also, I think that Toyota commercial touting made in America really hurts the big 3.

I think the OP is narrowing the definition of "marketing" unnecessarily. GM does a fair amount of marketing for a car that doesn't have much of a market to address. What it is not doing is mass-market advertising. The cash incentive for current owners, for instance, is a nice piece of very targeted marketing that's probably a very effective use of its marketing dollars.
