Not from what I'm reading. Everything I see says "including hands free"

That is truly distracting on the 610 during rush hour. Especially if the doers are on the ship channel bridge.

One doesn't depend on the local power grid though. Onstar still does NOT work in all locations as most people think they do. Just head across Nevada (not on I80) and find out.

And as this thread proved, people still think it is a satellite phone

As I said, nothing is perfect. It does work VERY well though, as members have reported and as I have experienced myself. I have five vehicles that have Onstar in them, I only use Onstar in one of them. It isn't for everybody or every application, either is McDonald's.

It's actually the white button or steering wheel controls for the phone, since that is what this thread is about.

Wow! I pay $14.95//mo for unlimited minutes. I use it a lot while driving so I don't have to use cell.

When I first took delivery of my 2011 GS, I wanted some minutes on the in-car cellphone because me and my wife had just arrived in the US from the Philippines, and our cellphones we had would not work here. We had a long drive from MacMulkin Chev down to Florida, and needed a working cellphone, so the OnStar cellphone was perfect in our situation.

I paid something like $12 and change for 80 minutes then.

Well, last night I ran out of those initial minutes I had bought, so I called the OnStar guy from the car and added an additional 100 minutes to use just in case I did not have my own cellphone in the car ... just basically a back-up "emergency" type of deal.

The least amount of time they could sell me is 100 minutes. After taxes and other various BS charges, the total cost was $48.42

Jeeeze ... 100 minutes for 48 bucks! ... That's 48 cents per minute!

Pretty damned high charge if you ask me!

I pay $42.95 for unlimited minutes/text/data on my 4G cellular plan. Comes through the Vett's stereo system too. I've never found an area where it didn't work, even going to Vegas in the middle of the Mojave desert I get clear reception. I got rid of On$star a long time ago.

Yes, you tell us every Onstar thread (most times interfering in the threads) about how great your cell phone is and how ****** Onstar is.

Bought my ZR1 in August and paid $5 bucks for 300 minutes that I may never use. I figured if my cell dies or I forget to take it with me I have a backup.

Must have been an introductory special or something.

I was responding to the OP - I wasn't talking to you.

Here you go bullying your way around again. You have to be a control freak and take over every thread, pushing your opinion on everyone.

Only your opinion is correct - right? No one has the right to express their opinion on things - right? It's always Racer.

Just because you bought a used zr1 doesn't make your opinions the only one allowed. Grow up.

IMO Racer can do whatever he wants, as long as he keeps changing his avatar.

Onstar had a deal earlier this year when I bought minutes for the truck. 300 minutes for 80 bucks. I use the truck phone instead of the cell when driving. Way easier.

Get notified of new replies

To OnStar in-car cellphone > .48 cents per minute!

Default OnStar a la carte

It would be nice to be able to just buy cell phone minutes without having to have a monthly plan. Or how about some 'a la carte' pricing for a 'crash only plan', a 'stolen vehicle only plan', or an 'I'm locked out of my car plan'.

Seems like OnStar could offer these single service options and get maybe $5 a month from people (like me) who would otherwise not subscribe.
