I was thinking about this deal yesterday, but wasn't sure. Then I was watching some show yesterday and this was one of Sears deals for next Friday and it said it would be $99. So I'm not sure what to do or think.

Well I put them to good use today.
It only took the following from the set:
1/2" ratchet
3" extension
19 mm socket
21 mm socket
Not much of a break in of the new set but a great place to begin.

I ordered online yesterday to get the $149 price but checked off 'pick up' instead of ship. Went down last night at 8:30 (after the crowds) and picked it up from my local Sears. The store has it for sale at $179.....so at $149 off the internet site--you just ain't gonna get any cheaper.
I looked at other various kits while I was there (easy return rights at Sears)..and this kit was simply the biggest bang for the buck even at $179. At $149 an insane deal.
Bryon-- a bunch of us owe you a beer for this find!

Folks,
Is this really a good set to get? The last Craftsman set I bought wasn't nearly as "high speed" as this one, and I think I paid $79.99 for the one I currently have. The one I have is more flat, black case, and comes with two ratchets (large / small) and associated sockets. Nothing too fancy.
Is this a steal??? If so, I can always pass on my current set.
Also, those who already bought this exact set, how is the red material? Is it hard plastic, or that flimsy eggshell plastic that marshmallow easter eggs come in?
Some of the reviews didn't approve of the red fastening clips, stating it was a "tool spill waiting to happen." Is this correct? Do some of you feel the same? One guy said he was going to install handles on the sides to avoid lifting up the box by the top handle. Although my current tool kit has somewhat the same style clips, my tool box is more rugged with metal clips.

Haven't paid attention to the case- it will be trashed....tools going into my big tool chest. For for the tools included (standard, metric, deep sockets, extensions etc etc etc--you can't beat this price-PERIOD. Sorry but a $300 set for $150...that math ain't hard. You do not buy a set like this for the case. Plastic is hard tough plastic.
When I was in high school (mid 70's) and working on my 66 Mustang...'my' 3/8th in Craftsman ratchet died midstroke installing a set on headers on a 289...no biggie my dad said...it was really his. He told me he bought it when he got out of the navy after WWII....so off to Sears we went...they looked at it...very early design with a rounded handle (if my brain/memory is still working correctly) and couldn't believe it had lasted almost 30 yrs of use....the sales guy walked over to the rack and picked out a new 'modern' (aka 1974 model) high speed ratchet and handed it to my dad with a "here you go...." A lifetime warranty was just that...lifetime, no receipt, no nothing but the broken tool returned for a new one.
25 yrs ago I bought my own huge set...but loans not returned, lost pieces etc many missing items and few metric....buying this entire set was much cheaper then trying to fill in my missing pieces...so now I'm complete again with SPARES

And, thee local store to where I would pick it up has it in stock too. This looks like a great Christmas present to me. (On top of my earlier present in October: A set of T1 Sway Bars and C6 Metal End Links that will be installed on 19 December!!! )
