Default Porter Cable 7424 Junk !!!!!!!!!

Be careful when you are using your Porter Cable mine came apart while i was polishing the top of my car and it dug into the white material before i could get it off.Not a good day.

It looks like the pad holder assembly broke. I really have not looked at it that close yet. I'm still trying to get over my car getting damaged.

Mine is about 3 years old,no issues .I have the backing plate added...put it on securely and no problems.

sounds like something wasnt tightened. sorry about the car. mine works hard and often no problems . Pilot error ?

I bought mine almost 10 years ago. I used it professionally for about 5 of those 10 years, never an issue.

I now use the 7424 as my always-dependable backup machine to my 7424XP and Griot's RO Polisher.

I had the backing plate dethreaded on mine years back, if I recall it was thanks to a fellow detailer telling me not to over-tighten the backing plate. Never took his advice again and I was lucky it didn't damage the paint on the GTO I was using it on.

Could you be more specific and tell us what about the 7424 design is flawed? To me it looks like something came unscrewed and you are blaming it on PC.

Sorry you had trouble. Now get the 2000 grit out and wet sand and then use the PC to bring her back.
