Get what you want, not what other people think you should get. Personally I've owned both. Had an 08 Z and missed a few things Z's don't have that a GS does. I now have a 2010 GS that I had Lingenfelter supercharge. It's now a Z beater, so you know what I think.

The question should be what are you looking for in your next Vette and how much are you willing to pay?

The main differences between the base and GS are:

Wider Wheels/tires
Brakes
Wide body panels
Dry Sump oil system (does not really matter for street use anyway)

You'll get 1000000 different answers on whether it's worth it over the base or not.. you can only decide that for yourself.

There are great prices on used Z06's now, but remember the Z does not have a removalbe top like the GS, and for many that is a deal breaker., and for others the extra bonuses of the 75 HP and lighter car offset the fixed roof.

It all comes down to how are you going to use it and what you think looks the best. Do you want to take the roof off? How much do you want to spend? If you need to ask that question, you haven't done enough research to make a decision yet. IMHO

I have seen 2 different 2010 GS low milage Coupes in this area recently go for very low 50's.

Note that the only Grand Sports that include the dry sump are coupes with manual transmissions.

Like anything else, if you want something bad enough, you can justify the cost.

You should buy what you like. If an auto is what you need, the GS is your only choice. If you go with a Z06, then 08 and up are better choices, the trans is stronger.

Throw on a good set of turbos, coilovers and swaybars on your current C6 and call it a day. You'll run circles around just about anything on the road.

Auto tranny and removeable top were the deciding factors for me. Love my GS with the M2W switch. Only thing I would like to have on it is the F55 suspension. Maybe the next one...doesn't matter. I only putt around in it.
