Default Auto-Dimming Mirrors

I did a search and could not find the answer.

I have a 2005 with auto-dimming rear-view and driver's side mirrors. Is there any way to unplug the dimmer or pull a fuse, etc.? I really do not like the auto-dimming...it makes them waaay too dark for me. Any help is appreciated.

This is the only fuse mentioned in the 2005 owner's manual.

Electric Inside Rearview Mirror,
Heating Ventilation, Air Conditioning
So, I don't think pulling that fuse would be practical.

You can turn off the auto dimming for the inside mirror using a button on the face of the mirror, but it will come back on again when the car engine starts up again. And I don't know if that will also shut off the outside driver's side mirror dimming or not.

Bump - any other ideas/comments.

As far as turning the mirror dimmer off with the button on the front...that also turns off the onstar and compass, doesn't it?

No, The automatic dimming feature is
automatically activated when the vehicle is started.
The automatic dimming feature is turned on or off by
pressing this button located on the lower part of the
mirror. Press and hold the button for up to three seconds
to turn this feature on or off.

you could put a small peice of electrical tape over the sensor on the mirror so it cant see any light from behind.
that would fix it

There's a pinout of the connector on the back of the rear view mirror floating around somewhere on here... I think it's in the FAQ. There's two pink wires in the bundle, one of them powers the mirrors, don't remember the pin # though. You could pull it and cap/stow it...

2005 there is a button on the mirror that you can turn it off.

The green light on the mirror indicates auto dim is on.

That seems the easiest:
Try it and tell us if it also turn off the compass.
Pretty sure it does not turn off on-star.

Tape on sensor.....+ 1 alternative.

Here's a pinout...

Link <<---

Looks like pin 5 or 16 would do the trick...

your link doesnt take to a page with a schematic on it. but my guess is that if your looking at a dimming wire it likely goes to the drivers side mirror which also dims.

i think tape over the sensor is a quick sure fire easy way to resolve the issue without changing anything with wires, and easily removed in the future.

Link fixed...

Tape would most likely work fine, looked like the OP was looking for a true disconnect to me though...

Anyone know how to turn the dimmer off on a 2012? Maybe my eyes are getting bad, but I like to see as much as possible. I could not find any switch on the mirror.

Check this:
Look on page 49
http://www.chevrolet.com/assets/pdf/...ner_Manual.pdf

See if you see something similar on your mirror.

there absolutly is, there is one on the front and another on the back. the one on back looks through the windshield to see if it is dark outside.
the one that points back is near the buttons and the green light. i dont have a pic of the mirror but if i had one i could point it out.

Anyone have a detailed schematic for the mirror?
I want to add a switch to turn on dimming all the time (Auto is too slow to react, I want full manual control) and also disable the airbag lights so that only the "ON" portion will light when someone is sitting in the passenger seat.

I just put a piece of tape over the front sensor so that it always thinks that it's dark and acts accordingly. Not perfect, but certainly the easiest solution.

Oh - use black electrical tape rather than transparent Scotch tape.

X2

I put a strip of tape over that annoying message about the passenger air bag is ON. That was the first mod I made to my C6. I left the On uncovered but I couldn't take the message anymore.
