Ok I know its all BS and no blinded comparison with all these reviews.
Here is mine:I just installed a redline on my 1 ton dually, so there is a height difference from the 9500xi in the vette, but riding the same road the 9500xi gives a much earlier warning to one of those traffic speed signs!! Will switch the redline into the vette sometime to see the difference.
Just on this one test the redline is not as long-range as I thought it would be.

No. In fact, I would bet on the STi as none of the radar detector detectors used by police can sniff it out.

I was told by one of the "experts" that the RedLine was designed expressly for truckers. Don't remember what the reason was only that at the time it seemed to make sense. Anyone ever heard this before?

I think trucks over 10,000 pounds it is a federal law banning the use of radar detectors, that's why they say these units were designed for truckers, but really they are for anyone living in an area where detectors are illegal. The market is bigger overseas than in the US actually.

Yes, they're banned for big rig usage. Funny thing, most commercial drivers, myself included don't run hot anymore. Fuel savings is the key word now days. @ $3.78gl yesterday, 203gl is a hefty chunk of change. Avg mpg is around 6 to 7 mpg on the open road @ 62 mph.

There are however more then you would think still running Cobra radar detectors out there. If I can pick it up with my radar detector, imagine how easy it is for an officer with a Spectre to pick it up!!!

The Redline, like the STi, Sti-R+, Magnum and 9500ci are Radar Detector Detector immune. If you live in Canada, VA, DC or drive a big rig these detectors are a must for you.

Agreed, most truckers these days have no need for a radar detector as they are speed limited to a speed below the limit on most Interstates.

So I notice the 9500xi and the 8500 are not on your list here. I thought those were also immune from SPECTRE detection? Where does VGA fit in here and is the V1 in the same catagory as the above mentioned (Redline, STi, STi-R+, Magnum) when it comes to being radar detector immune? I never seem to see this in posts rating radar detectors when they talk about the V1 as being the best. Although I live in NH I do sometimes drive through DC and VA.
Yes, the LO (Local Oscillator) in the Cobras is so leaky that my V1 and 9500ci will both pick up a Cobra at several hundred feet. It is always a 33.7 to 33.9 Ka signal and always weak. When you pass the Cobra vehicle it goes to about 3 bars amx then quickly fades away.

Only the ones I mentioned are Spectre immune. Spectre is a RDD made by Applied concepts and is the state of the art in that field today. Many older RDD systems will not detect the older V1's but the Spectre will grab it at about 400'. Cobras are so noisy they can be picked up at almost a mile.

I've installed the Bel Sti-R on my 2011 GS Vert. Absolutely the best I have used. Very decrete, remote installation. NO false signals once located and "learned".
