Is there any way at all to take a baby in a Corvette?
I don't know all the laws here in the US regarding baby seats in cars, but maybe someone here may know something from previous experiences:
1. Can you put a little child in one of those baby seats attached to the unoccupied passenger seat of a Corvette while traveling? I ask this because I thought I heard that a baby seat can only be legally attached to the rear seat of a car (obviously, we don't have a rear seat).
2. Can a baby be held in the arms of an adult riding in the passenger seat of a Corvette?
I am getting the feeling because we only have a 2 seat car, it is impossible to legally transport a baby in a Corvette in the US.
Any truth to this?
Thank's
Ron

Question 1 - I had a baby seat installed in the passenger seat of my truck, I would/could not see why the Vette legally would be different. See owners manual pages 1-37 through 1-43 for installation instructions including the proper use of the tether restraint anchors. http://www.google.com/url?sa=t&source=web&cd=1&ved=0CDQQFjAA&u rl=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.chevrolet.com%2Fasse ts%2Fpdf%2Fowners%2Fmanuals%2F2008%2F200 8_chevrolet_corvette_owners.pdf&rct=j&q= 2008%20corvette%20owner%20manual%20pdf&e i=10eUTsKsN6fl0QG13oWwBA&usg=AFQjCNFH2Rm w00-YjX4X5GAqPFfBMqyKsg&sig2=AzOzJq0t_ltqdfN JvoPz1A&cad=rja
Question 2 - No way! From the owners manual-
CAUTION: People should never hold an infant in their arms while riding in a vehicle. An infant does not weigh much — until a crash. During a crash an infant will become so heavy it is not possible to hold it. For example, in a crash at only 25 mph (40 km/h), a 12 lb (5.5 kg) infant will suddenly become a 240 lb (110 kg) force on a person’s arms. An infant should be secured in an appropriate restraint.

Use the search button. This topic has been discussed many times. You will find plenty of info on this topic. It's safe as long as air bag is turned off as mentioned above. I would recommend placing a towel or something similar under the car seat to prevent any damage to your leather seat. I'm actually gonna try this next year when my son is at least 2.5 yrs old.

It is all described in the Owner's Manual. If you don't have an Owner's Manual for your year car go to the GM Parts House web page and click on the downloads section to get a copy on your computer. There is a clip on the floor of the cargo area behind the passenger seat that is used to fasten child car seats that have a top tether. The air bag turns off when a low weight is on the seat. You need to check the manual for your year car as the information can change each year. The section on Child Restraints starts on page 1-25 of the 2008 Owner's Manual and page 2-26 of the 2010 Owner's Manual.

Hold the baby, no way.
Back seat preferable, obviously not an option.
Most states require that infants (under 1?) be situated in a BACKWARDS-FACING seat.

It's illegal (in all 50 states) for a baby or any child for that matter to be held while driving. Silly question, but are you not from the United States where this may be a confusing law.
Personally, I'm sickened by people who attempt this and I normally report it when I see it happening.

As mentioned, read the owner's manual. I seem to recall there's about a hundred pages devoted to the subject.
A clip on the floor in the cargo area....I had no idea. I learn something new everyday.

Yes, it is legal.
Only two passengers is maybe what your asking....driver and baby (in other words passenger can't carry the baby).
See the owners manual, buy a car seat.
***It is probably (probably) illegal to set up a system where a baby seat can be attached in the coupe cargo area - so you would then have a three seat Corvette.

if you don't have any sense to know how dangerous this is for your child whether you think it's legal or not, then you have no business being a parent........1st rule is to ensure the safety of your child...

my boy turns 1 in a couple weeks and the wife has agreed to let me take him around the neighborhood for a ride front facing in the passenger seat. I will wait until he is forward facing all the time before I take him with me regularly.

In the proper infant / toddler seat this is perfectly legal.

I was just asking because I see it all the time being done in the Philippines. I was assuming it was more than likely illegal here in the US, but didn't know for sure. I used to see it being done here in the US a long time ago, but I figured it was more than likely illegal by now.
My real question was .. is it ok to put one of those baby seats in the car since we don't have a rear seat.

I take my kid--now 4--for rides all the time. It's often RECOMMENDED that child seats go in the back, but even New York--always ready to make a new law or pass a new restriction--only says kids SHOULD be in the back if there is one.
Holding baby...um, no.
I do remember, though, riding on the console of various cars when I was a kid! Man we did silly things then...
Here's me and my little buddy:
