new 2012, shifter vibrates in 5th gear
I'd appreciate any advice ; new 2012, 300 miles, vert 6sp. only when gas is applied the shifter vibrates in 5th gear and everything else appears to be normal, when I take my foot off the gas the vibration goes away. Hate to have to take it back to the dealer this quick but it looks like I may have to.

5th gear vibrates on mine, too. Don't know what to tell ya. I don't notice that type of vibration in any other gear.

5th and 6th are overdrive gears. If you are demanding more power in those gears it will vibrate a little because it's bogging or struggling a little. Downshift to 3rd or 4th and then go to 5th for cruising depending on your speed.

Doesn't hold true for me. 6th doesn't vibrate like 5th gear does, under the same conditions. My 4th gen Camaro that I had never vibrated in any of its 6 gears like the Vette does in 5th.

mine does the same thing, its not bad enough for me to notice until you posted. I'm assuming its normal since the car runs fine and it has no problem getting into and out of gear. Just drive and enjoy.

don't know but may have to go back to the dealer for sure. I'[m pretty sure my '08 doesn't do that but I don't really listen for it.

Its just vibration. Probably not a problem if many people here are reporting it. If its already vibrating, Id just go ahead and swap it out for a Z06 shift box, with metal bushings. Youll still have vibration but it'll be a crisper shift. Either that or just wait and maybe the rubber bushings will soften up and dampen the vibration a little more.

My 08 that I just purchased does the same exact thing, only in 5th gear. I am bringing it back to the dealer this Friday. Interesting to see what they have to say about what is causing this.

I rarely use 5th gear, by the time I get to 4th, I'm ready to stop shifting and go right to 6. This will pretty much stop the vibration in 5th.

I had a similar issue when I went with an after market ball shifter **** especially if I left my hand on it. I took some painters tape and wrapped it around shifter shaft and slid **** over it (enough to make it tight) and no more vibration at all. For what its worth.

For those installing aftermarket ***** which are typically lighter than stock, cut up some high density foam or sponge and pack it in the ****. When you place it on the stick, push down hard (you'll feel the resistance from the foam) to get the secrew aligned with the hole in the shaft. Tighten the screw and any rattle or vibration caused by the **** is 100% gone.
