Headed to Tail of the Dragon
Leaving Green Bay Thursday in our Grand Sport and headed first to Nashville then Gatlinburg/Deals Gap area for a week.
Any "can't miss" places to eat while in eastern Tennessee/North Carolina.
Also, any road construction to be aware of out that way?

You'll be there on a weekend? I'm sorry...
There's a good chance that the overcrowding of that place combined with heavy law enforcement will severely limit your options for challenging driving.

Just did this trip in June. Be sure to go downtown in Nashville. It's really jumping. Lot's of good places to eat in Gatlinburg. Just check around for what u like. Have fun! No road construction of any concern.

Deals Gap
Try not to be there during a weekend, LEO's are enforcing heavily on week ends.
You will enjoy the rides, it's more fun with 2 or more cars, but, fun no matter what
3 Vettes from our area will be leaving on the 12th Oct to 16th. we stay away from town and do back roads.
Have Fun!!

Been there many time. I have advice and a request:
Advice: On a weekday morning you will likely avoid the police and the crowds. Morning is important, earlier is better.
Request: I am also a motorcyclist... please stay in your lane on the Dragon. Somebody's life may depend on it.
Have a great trip!

Doing The Tail
Our Club visits the Tail the 1st of November every year; we stay at Fontanna Village which is right at the entrance to the Dragon. Not a bunch of places to eat around so we eat there at Fontanna Village at the Inn. There is a great restaurant there and the prices are fair since they have a captive clientale. I highly reccommend their food very tasty. Enjoy the tail it's a blast be careful and stay inside the yellow lines the Leos will bust you quick for that.

Have fun! If you're headed south toward Franklin, NC on highway 28 (great ride) - there's an incredible restaurant called "Cafe REL" in town (with Hotspot Gas Station on Depot St. and E Main). You'll be pleasantly surprised; it's worth the trip!

Been going over there since the seventies. Before it was cool to do. Week days are best. Watch out for 18 wheelers. Check out tailofthedragon.com. It has alot of info on their site. The cops over on the Tennessee side have been known to give out some tickets for weird stuff, like driving with one hand on wheel.
Also killboy.com has great pictures and info also.

You don't even want to be near Pigeon Forge/Gattlingburg on the weekend. Fall grand run is this weekend. I'll be there to sell a couple of Classic cars. Park my but in front of the Tennessee State Bank and don't drive at all.

I agree with all the advice above. I've been there a number of times on my motorcycle. I'm not that picky about food, I'm more into places with that are clean and serve a good sandwich or burger, and have that "down home" atmosphere.
Be sure to check the sites for pictures when you get home. When I was there in May there were three places where you picture gets taken and you buy them off the web-site. You can use Google to find them. Some are pretty high quality. Below is one...

When leaving Nashville, you should consider routing yourself to the Dragon via I-40 East to Route 321 through Lenoir City and Marysville............This is a scenic drive and will take you to the Dragon.

The Tail is the best fun I've had since my Honeymoon!....
Ride it both ways at a 'reasonable' speed if you have never been there before...then have fun!...
On weekdays, there may be a LEO SUV on the Tenn. side with the radar on...sometimes the SUV is unmanned and only used as a prop....
The Tail can bite back...so have fun but be careful!

I'll second that! In fact, right between Maryville and Townsend you can take the Foothills Parkway. At the end of the parkway you'll arrive at a beautiful lake. Go left and within minutes you will be on the tail of the dragon.

Thanks everyone for the help. I am sure my wife will make sure I keep the tempo down, she has heard of others experiencing a little motion sickness on those roads.

I've run the dragon several times in different cars... always fun. As others have stated don't cross the center lines, they will ticket you for that. It's a big money maker for them. Be sure to check out the store there..lots of cool stuff and you need to get your dragon decals from there too. There are guys on the side of the road taking pictures all the time. They put them up on websites for you to order them. I got a great one of my 600 hp 79 Trans Am from Killboy.
