Do you *really* use your HUD?
What are your thoughts on the necessity of the HUD? Do you really like it, or does the magic wear off after 1-2 months?
Looking to buy a C6, but haven't pulled the trigger yet. Just wondering if it is actually useful. I'll be using the car as a DD, mostly highway driving to and from work (~40 miles per day).
Thanks in advance!

Use it....love it. It's my primary instrument cluster....don't need to look down, your speed is always in your field of vision, and the tach is easy to see without actually looking at it either. For me, you don't even really have to focus on the HUD to get the situational awareness of speed and tach....just having it close in your field of vision makes me always aware of speed and shift points.
If you get the Nav....it's a must (the nav on it's own is pretty mediocre...but the HUD makes it really great). I have the Nav's voice commands completely muted...don't need them, the HUD will catch your attention and let you know exactly when to turn (and you won't have your tunes interrupted!).
I think its a great feature.....and well worth the money to me!

I've had a C6 for 7 years now and I use it all the time. I really miss it when I drive my wife's car. I think that after you've had it a month, you'll ask yourself how you ever did without it before you got it.

I am old school and by habit I check my gauges, but I love my hud when used with the nav system tells me when turns come up, also just the other day i came home from a 2 week trip without the vette and got in and jumped on the hwy without checking the fuel gauge and the hud reminded " low fuel check gauges"

It's one of those options that I thought I wouldn't really care about. But that was because I had never driven a car with one before.
Adjustable height, brightness and gage style/selection makes it usable for a variety of drivers/tastes/street/track.
I use mine all the time and really miss it in my other cars.

Once I got used to having it and making use of it (for awhile it was habit to look down at the speedometer) I find myself using the HUD almost exclusively now for speed.
Obviously still glance around at the other gauges but I prefer the HUD over a non-HUD vette. (first vette was a 1lt optioned interior without hud, Z06 is a 2LZ w/hud)

Ok, could somebody with a HUD explain why you would ever want to turn it off? I've seen a couple of posts that mention turning it off. I've never even considered the possibility. Even on a real dark night, you can easily turn down the brightness.
Any legitimate reason to turn it off?

As mentioned before, saved me from some tickets. As far as the macho "I'm a guage guy," BS. The Hud doesn't tell you everything, but it tells you a lot to keep your **** out of a ticket. Also, the G thing is really cool when you have the opportunity to push your Corvette.
I'm sold.

Although my Vette is pretty much a DD, I still drive my WRX and the wife's car 2-3x a week. I find myself checking the regular gauges as often as the HUD. Guess I'm just a creature of habit. Although I am glad I installed the HUD, I would not say it's "necessary".
