If u have a white collar job or a good trade, and can't come up with $20k down $350 monthly payment, then give up
Avg house in USA is <$200k, so mortgage or rent should not be that high
Corvette haters need to work harder or STFU

Exactly, one of my coworkers and his wife both smoke about 3 packs a day between the two of them. That's almost $600 a month and he is always telling me how broke they are and how it must be nice to have a Vette.
I come back with it must be nice to have money to burn, literally.

I have been keyed a few times. I bought my 07 with 2 miles on it and now it has well over 120,000. As a DD I know things will happen, I just through some touch up paint on it and keep rolling. As long as they do not break a window or flatten a tire, then I try not lose any sleep over it.

If someone walks up to me with tattoos covering half their body, I immediately judge them - fairly or not. That's just the way life is. Same with what folks drive, how they dress and whether or not they have fifteen ear piercings in their nose and ears.

I love my Corvette and love driving it every chance I get. But I do find myself not wanting to take it anywhere that my or my wifes coworkers or friends will be at. I and even more so, my wife, are borderline embarresed to be seen in it while in front of those that can't afford one. I know thats a personal hang up of ours that I need to get over. I sure don't let it bother me enough to ever get rid of it!

Not really. I had one of the Senior Enlisted I work for tell me he didn't like "The message that my choice in vehicles sent to the Airmen". I said "Chief, I value greatly your opinion on a lot of different things. That's not one of them."
Later on he walked into our shop just to shoot the bull with the guys a little bit and somehow the conversation completely randomly turned to my new C6. So the chief asks one of my Airmen what he thinks when he see's his E6 driving around in a "Flashy high dollar sports car". My Airmen then proceeds to tell the chief about how I took a huge pay cut when i joined the Air Force. He tells him about how I fought and struggled with my finances for ten years until I found myself right on the verge of declaring bankruptcy but my supervisor stepped in and put in me in contact with a financial manager who helped me pay off more than $36k in debt in three years while raising my credit score from a 450 to a 758. He then told the chief that when he thinks about his supervisor cruising around in the flashy expensive sports car he realizes that I had to overcome a lot of financial adversity in order to get myself into a position where I could afford that car. He said that if I can get the help I needed from my friends in the Air Force to fight back from the position I was in then so could he. Seeing my Vette makes him believe in his own ability to fight through adversity.
Then one of my newer airmen who I hadn't had any reason to discuss all that with yet said "I just thought he had made a bunch of money in the stock market or something."
I'm still not sure what message the chief thought it sent but I'm sure it wasn't either of those...

i for one feel that it's my god given right to drive and enjoy any damn car i want to enjoy totally guilt free, and it's just sour grapes from others who usually haven't worked as hard as my wife and i to be able to afford our 911, or your vettes,...tough love for sure,...but in my now ripe geezerhood, i realize that nothing is ever handed to you,...certainly wasn't to us!,...when i look back at what we made salary wise 33 years ago, i'm amazed at what we have accomplished,...but that was no easy ride,...and i'm sure most other high end car owners would agree,...[ and yes, i do consider the vette a high-end car, esp. the z06 and zr1],...so you'll get no guilt from me about driving and enjoying our porsches[we have a cayenne turbo too, brand new],..work hard and save, and that's the american way!,...to enjoy the fruits of your labors,..be they vettes, porsches,...beemers,...whatever,...maybe even a ferrari![would love to bump it up a notch to get one of those someday,...but not before we get a zr1!]

I am a rather reserved. People are usually surprised when they find out I drive a Corvette, but they are happy to see me enjoy driving it.

I don't think anyone here disagrees with you. The question is the perception of others. And while many folks say they don't care what other people think, that doesn't mean that we don't have to deal with the consequences of what other people think. And those consequences can be very real - depending a lot on how we handle them as individuals.

It doesn't help that the hypocritical regime in Washington, D.C. plays-up and relies on the whole class warfare angle. Their redistributionist (trickle-down poverty) mentality doesn't help with people's perceptions. Whether you've worked hard (like most of us) or if you won the lottery you should not have to feel guilty or ashamed for what you have. It's a sad commentary when the Corvette owner feels he has to drive his beater to work (instead of his Corvette) for fear of what others might think.

No, jealousy but maybe that is because I work out of my home and my co-workers are 350 miles away ...thank god ...LOL
Best advice I have ever heard: " Who cares what other people think"

All I can say is that there sure are a lot of a**holes out there. Ignore them, you shouldn't have to justify it to anyone but I totally understand. Sad days in this country.

I've had very few negative reactions (from others) about my Corvette. I do recall driving my Vette to meet a roofing contractor at a property I own. I remember him checking out the car and saying "Business must be good" (and then his bid probably increased 50%). There are always those who are envious of others and what they have. The Corvette is just a Chevy so I hate to call it "wealth envy" but I suppose it's all relative. Maybe the Corvette owner is envious of the guy driving the Bentley.

Well stated
We had a similar experience with a roofing contractor. He saw my Corvette & my son's and gave us a estimate of $ $16,000 for a job that should have cost $ 6,000.00

I have owned a Vette since 1969 when I bought my first 58'. I currently have a 59', 62', 97' and a 05' and recently when a friend of mine bought an 08' we all (at my Rotary Club) gave him some good natured kidding. I think it goes with the territory.
I've had plenty of 'it must be nice' as well as other similar comments throughout the past 42 years, but I've always taken them as compliments. A guy's way of acknowledging another guy's car, nothing more.
