Corvette ownership and jealousy......

I have been meaning to post this question and after reading a post about some low life keying someones car I thought I would take the time do it. Do any of your friends or coworkers treat you differently since you have your Corvette. I seem to get a negative attitude and cold shoulder from certain friends and coworkers since buying mine.
The funny thing is that most of the people I get this from make as much money or more than me. My wife and I have worked for everything we have , no one has given us anything. I get the " must be nice to have money" bs all the time from certain people and it really gets a little old. We don't drink, gamble or smoke our money away. We stayed in a small house and paid it off early. We don't take expensive vacations like some. Anyhow I was just wondering if anyone else has experienced this.

I traded in my SRT Challenger for my Corvette and got a mix of praise and damnation for both. I got my chally at 23 and literally sacrificed all the little things to save a substantial down payment. Then I get my vette about two weeks ago and catch heat from every angle from my age group. All my older friends congratulated me and wanted a ride. Some people are just never happy and try to bring everyone else down with them, o well. I happy with my vette and that's all that matters.

My on-shore and off-shore teams from India love being in America. Make good money and if they go back, they have the experience to get a job with 30-50% pay raise.

Nope, actually thin, above average looking and around 40 years of age. Very very shady but it took a long time for anything to be done since the CEO was unwilling to change what was "working" for the company. In the end she was placed in an hourly pay position that I am sure demolished her ego.

I think the people that flaunt it are the ones that get the comments. I have a Facebook page and have yet to post one picture of the car with comments like "look at what I just got" or "check out my new vette". My friends are very happy for me and since it's my 3rd vette in 20 years, I bypassed the mid life crisis, ***** extension comments. There isn't a day that goes by that at least one person that I don't know comments "nice ride" as I pull up to a red light or park in a parking lot. I suppose it's your area and how you carry yourself.
My last 3 cars were new lincolns and each one cost more than my current vette, so anyone that knows car values would know better. In addition, there are plenty of jags, mercedes, audi's driving around worth much more.

I too got the mid life crisis stuff. My Dad had a 60 vette. So I wanted one ever since I was 14.When I was 15 and my parents went out,I would sneak the car out and drive around the neighborhood. It took me till my 40's to afford one.I've had 4 now,and presently have an 04 ZO6 I track and an 09 vert I drive in the summer.I drive the vert to work everyday I can put the top down.So my co-workers no and have been happy for me.I got a wild hair and drove the 04 to work one day.It still had the Hoosiers on but they were done anyway. The car is covered in decals and numbers.Well it was a mistake to do that cuz attitudes changed when people realized I had 2.I have too admit I was surprised by this.

Don't believe I've seen jealousy. Maybe from older people, like mentioned below, because they couldn't afford a Corvette when they were young.
But I do get the " you must be rich " attitude from people sometimes.
Another one is because I am young, 32, and still look young....older people look at me like " it's just a kid ". Good example of when i went to 'Vettes on the Rockies 2 weeks ago in Breckenridge, CO. 99% of the people there are over 50 years old. My future wife said somebody made that comment while I was in the autocross staging area. Guess they can't believe that us young kids actually have jobs.....they should be saying, hell yes, start off the next generation with Corvettes, get other young people involved. Funny too, because I kicked all their butts in the autocross. The only 1 or 2 people that beat me had a $120K+ ZR1. I have a base C6 that I paid $31K for. He only beat me by 0.04 seconds. I'll save that extra money for retirement.

Say no more
Formerly young, above avg looks realize they don't have it anymore
They are bitter and jealous
U represent the 1979 C3 owner that pumped and dumped her; she will key one on way out from dollar store soon

QUESTION : do younger vette drivers get a lotta heat from older vette drivers in the "community" lol.
i am 28... not really young but i enroute to my second vette. my base is nicely modded and its completely paid for. i went to the dealership to check out the financing for the Zr1 and i got a lotta heat from some lady and her husband (like late 40's) just bought their vette about how it "must be nice" but that must be nice didnt sound nice at all lol.
i get the same thing from middle to older generation people... non vette owners too. young ppl no issues.

I bought mine used for 1/2 price of a new one. Mine is a '05 but looks new. It was very well kept. It has nice wheels on it and looks like big $$$. Which is simply not that case. If it was big $$$ I wouldn't have it.
But some (most) people see it and say, "Holy crap! How can you afford that?"
I make good money. Even though I could afford a new one, I can't see tying all my money up in it.
There is some jealousy. But the light hearted kind. Not the I hate you because you have and I don't. And I don't like discussing how much I pay for anything. When people ask, I ask them how much they think it costs. They usually say $40K + and then I say, well then I got a great deal.

Safety Car
Even though everybody at work knows I got one, I still, to this day, park it way off on the other side of our building (if I even take it to work at all).
It just works better if you play your role, drive your sensible DD to work, and pretend to have money problems. It's definitely part of owning a vette- I even get the hate on my C4

Not really. I had one of the Senior Enlisted I work for tell me he didn't like "The message that my choice in vehicles sent to the Airmen". I said "Chief, I value greatly your opinion on a lot of different things. That's not one of them."
Later on he walked into our shop just to shoot the bull with the guys a little bit and somehow the conversation completely randomly turned to my new C6. So the chief asks one of my Airmen what he thinks when he see's his E6 driving around in a "Flashy high dollar sports car". My Airmen then proceeds to tell the chief about how I took a huge pay cut when i joined the Air Force. He tells him about how I fought and struggled with my finances for ten years until I found myself right on the verge of declaring bankruptcy but my supervisor stepped in and put in me in contact with a financial manager who helped me pay off more than $36k in debt in three years while raising my credit score from a 450 to a 758. He then told the chief that when he thinks about his supervisor cruising around in the flashy expensive sports car he realizes that I had to overcome a lot of financial adversity in order to get myself into a position where I could afford that car. He said that if I can get the help I needed from my friends in the Air Force to fight back from the position I was in then so could he. Seeing my Vette makes him believe in his own ability to fight through adversity.
Then one of my newer airmen who I hadn't had any reason to discuss all that with yet said "I just thought he had made a bunch of money in the stock market or something."
I'm still not sure what message the chief thought it sent but I'm sure it wasn't either of those...
