Oil leak

If it is the pan gasket.....
There has been discussion that this gasket is robust *** and a proper retorque of the pan bolts *** may fix the issue.
Also read all the bolts are accessable without and disassembly.
So, clean the oil off the pan w/ degreaser and re-torque before spending $$.
Let us know!
Main seal or oil lines would be another issue to review if there is a drip.
The pans seem to be a seep.

However, I do believe it is better for an engine to get some miles on it and regular use or else I feel you run a larger risk for leaks or things to go bad. Sitting is not good.
How do you know the oil pan is leaking and not some other part? The oil pan gasket can leak, the front cover seal can leak and the main bearing cross bolts can leak. Just because the oil pan is wet it doesn't mean it is the oil pan that is leaking. The leak on my LS7 was from the front cover seal.

If it was me I would drain the oil out of the engine completely (including the filter) and let it sit for a while. I would then clean everything I could to get it spotless. Sometimes a leak will look like it is coming from somewhere that it really is not. It just has accumulated in that location. Then put in the correct amount of oil and new filter and see if it leaks. Because everything is clean now you should be able to diagnose to the leak with ease.

What I find more interesting is the inconsistency of build standards where things like the oil leak noted occurs on some? many? LS engines then there are ones like mine...I changed the oil and filter this week and took this pic (always document just in case something does happen)...not a nary of oil leaking and very little evidence of the porous oil pan syndrome>>
My C6 is a 2005 (took delivery in Nov 2004) but is a low mileage car.

Did you ever pin point this leak?
It looks to be from the oil cooler gasket.
I am asking cause after my first 402 start I have what looks to be the same leak.

You could use some of the GM dye and a black light. That's what the dealer did on mine to verify that re-torquing the bolts fixed it.

Yes thanks for that info. I just had mine done on 2005 and not a drip on the floor BUT the surface of the oil pan looked like oil mixed with water. Six hrs. labor but it was repaired under GMPP extended warranty.

Since they are all LS3 engines, my 2010 Camaro SS had the leak. Had to pull the entire K member to fix the issue. Luckily yes that one was under warranty. I just hope the new 2012 GS does not do the same thing.

Most of the oil was dripping off of the pan bolt to the very right of the oil filter and in front of the black plastic trans cover.
Just above that, that area is oiled EXACTLY like this pick!
My truck has yet to move for it to splash upward, which is making me think oil gushed out from that oil cooler gasket to that corner and dripped down.
In behind the trans cover and inside the trans bel housing it's totally dry.
Sorry to highjack this thread but this is upsetting. Hopefully it'll be an easy fix!
Great forum!

The gasket that was used to replace original gasket is better than original I was told so hopefully this gasket will last longer.
Somewhere in the forum here there are pictures of the porus oil pan syndrome.
Also found water pump had very little sepage but no drips on floor.
Makes me wonder if I didn't have extended GMPP warranty what would it have cost to replace oil pan gasket and the water pump?

The procedure to fix this problem,
was somwhat disturbing. I took my
07 with 8K miles in for the oil pan leak.
The real troubling part was that the GM
procedure covered Corvettes from 2005
thru 2011.
This seems to indicate a problem that GM
has known about for 6 yrs, also, it can include
thier "hand bulit Wixom Engine".
I lucked out, as the Service Manage at the
dealership was a friend , and has taken care
of every TSB that pertains to this car.
Anyway, I would suggest you get under your
car one way or another and start looking for
weeping oil pan nuts, oil pans with oil running
from the front to back or leaks at the rear of
the pan gasket and /or oil stains on the pan itself.
This is an expensive repair if you are out of warranty,
around $2300+". They have to drop the entire front
cradle to get-to-and -fix-the -oil-pan leak.
After putting the car back together, they have to
reset the tow, SOME people think they get a free 4 way allignment...not so...adjust tow ONLY...as per GM
repair instructions.
Anyway, if you are still under Warranty, get under
the car and look, even it is 2011.
This is the same-o-same-o That GM has been pulling
for years. They have know about this since 2005, it
now reach's all the way to 2011.
Just say'n ...take a look under your car. They
aren't legally, nor does this qualify as "recall",
but bet you wallet they are waiting for your
warranty to run out before you notice an "oil
well " under your car.
I have more info on this, if anyone is interested
send me a PM.
