Wow...how tough it must be for that Father. Can't imagine a harder thing go go through. Hats off to you for using any opportunity you get to make a positive impact/impression on people. Kids look up to Cops in general and I bet it meant a lot to that kid. Godspeed to the kid and his family.

Thank you! For the story first - you are my kind of cop. One that genuinely cares for the people you serve.
Second, for giving me an opportunity to pray for a family in deep need.
I'm sure the younger boy has been through a realm of emotions in the middle of what is a terribly sad situation that will result in losing his brother and probably tear at his parents daily way of living. You made that young boys day and I'm sure the father appreciated an ear to bend to vent some stress.
God bless you and God bless this family.

I just met a father of a terminally ill 17 y/o at St Jude's while we were getting a drink at Exxon, just down the street from the hospital. He had a 9 y/o boy with him who was very polite, awestruck by our new 2011 Charger Hemi police car. He asked me what all the bullets and handcuffs and sprays on my belt were and the black and blue 'Thin Blue Line' wristband I had on was.
I told him "Its for cops to recognize other cops". I gave him my wristband and he smiled and said "What will you wear?". I just smiled and said Id get another one. His Dad thanked me and shook my hand, wiping away a tear, as he told me his St. Jude couldn't do anymore for his 17 y/o, but he was thankful.
Just when I think things around me suck, I get a reminder they don't.

Great job on making his other kid feel good!!

Your thoughtfulness and kindness are an inspiration and should be a reminder to us all that a little effort can go a long way.
I truly hope things change for that young man for the better.

Hope you're able to join us for Corvetteforum's annual visit to St. Jude on Columbus Day. We park our Corvettes in the circle and let the kids who are well enough come out and sit in therm.
mrs.savewave and I met a young stage IV neuroblastoma patient, Evan, during the event four years ago and have been blessed by the time we've spent with him and his family since then when they come to Memphis for treatment.
