A little trivia.....The GT40 got it's name because it was 40" tall. The Ford Gt is 44.3" The ZR1 is 48.7" tall. Take a tape and extend it out to 40" and then place it next to your C6. Then you will fully realize how low a car the original GT40 is.
I've only seen two of the Ford GT's. One in a small town dealer's showroom about a year after they came out. MSRP was around $155,000, but he was wanting $250,000.
The second one, I was driving north on I-35 just north of Austin, TX early on a Sunday morning, and a black Ford GT was heading south. I had a chance to get a good look as we passed each other. What was funny though, the Ford GT was driven by a young girl, very young I'd guess. And short. She had her upper body pitched forward and was really stretching her neck to see over the dash. She looked like she was barely 16 and barely 5' tall(if that).
I love my Z06, and not really that impressed with the ZR1. Not knocking the ZR1, but I don't see that much difference between the two cars for the dollar amount the ZR1 costs over the Z06. That said, I'm impressed with the Ford GT and would love to have one, But not for what they are selling for.

surprising how many people that don't know the difference between a Ford GT and a GT40. While the Ford GT has the overall looks of the GT40, they are completely different cars.

Right now a low mileage one (under 2500 miles) will go in the 150-170 range.

Joe, the ones posting "GT40" are either trolling. or they didn't read the OP's question and really don't know cars very well.

Unless we've all been mistaken and the OP actually did mean the original GT40. If that were the case, my answer would change to the ZR1

I was guilty of assuming he meant GT.

I believe the OP meant the 2005+ Ford GT, not the 1960's GT40. He just didn't realize there is a difference. Very common mistake, but it helps if everyone is on the same page.

However even on my "limited" budget, I do well with my "mildly modded C6 at the drag strip.. I still teach those young (40- 50 yr old) kids a thing or two on race day
As for which car I'd take the ZR1 or the 2005 Ford GT... Damn tough choice..I'm thinking I'd take the Ford only because in 2-3-4 years from now it should be a "helluva" lot easier to get a ZR1 than one of the Fords...

Joe you are correct.. I did mean the 2005 car and called it by the wrong name sorry for the confusion I caused... Please cut me a little slack as I'm closing in on 69 yrs "OLD" & get forgetful at times..

Your reflexes must be a lot better then mine if you're still going to the drag strip, or you're driving an auto. I'm afraid my power shifting a manual transmission like I did years ago is just a memory. I have a Z06, but don't power shift like I did with the Muncies back in the day.

Ok, this post made it to FordGTforum.com
They are flattered that so many hard core Vette fans tip the hat to Ford GT
Many Ford GT owners own Z06/ZR1s; and many more have Vettes as DD.
Many love the Viper too. Big iron american muscle rocks
Mutual respect always works.
