Default $91 for an Oil Change!

Ouch! Yesterday, I paid $91 for an oil change at a Kwik Kar station for my '10 Grand Sport. It is so hot here in Texas that I did not want to crawl under my car out in the hot garage to change my oil. But, I never thought it would cost that much. They charge $75 for up to 5 quarts of Mobil 1 oil and extra for additional quarts.

Now I am determined to change my own oil in the future. Since I drive my GS only about 5k miles per year, this will be an annual oil change.

If you think about it , not that bad at all . Depending on how much you drive it's pretty much only once a year . So IMHO , $91 bucks and it done is ok....Chris

Had a dealer want to charge me over 200 once.. Castrol edge @ $20.50 qt.... I told them to buy their oil at napa for 8.50 if they wanted a better price than their distributor. I went through my local guy and got it for $7 qt

Did you ask the price before they did the oil change? That's a RIP-OFF

I bought my dealers "Oil Change Program" at the same time I got the extended warranty. I think it was $250 for the 5 changes

Hi Clark

I looked in your profile, but only info about your '65 in there.

Is your GS a manual transmission coupe???

If so, then you've got the 10.5 quart dry sump system.

A 5 quart jug of Mobil 1 at Walmart is currently about $24, so to service your oil system would be around 50 bucks just for oil.

A UPF-48R oil filter is about $10.

So.....it would cost about $60 in oil and a filter to DIY.

That is the going rate, not bad if you want to have it done. For me once a year, I am fine with paying someone else to do it. I have no desire to do it myself.

Doin it yourself? Hassel, get rid of used oil. 7.00 (or local Auto Zone deal 5.5 qts and filter 30.00 x 2) 77.00 plus filter then labor then disposal... 91.00 isn't bad plus you don't break a sweat or get dirty.

I paid about $80 at wallyworld for mine.

Lot of money for an oil change.... I have no sons, so I taught my daughters to change their oil. Looks funny seeing my oldest under her Dodge Ram changing her oil filter! BUT, sure saves money!

That sounds good to me. It's 104 here right now, do I really want to be under my car changing my oil spilling it on the driveway and then having to dispose of it myself. When I can take it to a competent dealer(i know that sounds like an oxymoron) and have them do it in less than an hour while i am sitting in their waiting room?

Keep in mind I don't mind wrenching on my own car( did the whole widebody conversion myself)but I would rather pay a few extra bucks for the convenience of not having to deal with it.

If it is a dry sump, I hope they did it correctly. Most don't know how to handle it.

My $90 quote was for the standard amount of oil.

I actually have been changing the oil on all of my vehicles for years, and enjoy it.

My first oil change was free from the dealer, but I'll be due for another soon.

I thought you needed special tools to do the dry sump. No?

Can I do it myself with regular oil change tools?
