Default Tired of the Onstar Virtual Operator saying "Pardon?". Replace the Onstar Microphone

Here's a new mod that is dirt simple and dirt cheap. Replace your Onstar microphone with one of the new ones from a 2011 Corvette:

It was so frustrating trying to make a phone call using the Onstar telephone and hearing the virtual operator constantly say "Pardon?" I'd get halfway through a phone number to dial, and she couldn't understand me.

Here is my old microphone for comparison:

Notice the shape tends to pick up noise from every direction - the new one is aimed right at the driver.

The microphone is only about $20 bucks and just takes a few minutes to snap it in place.

Here is my main website:

http://www.kawal.net/vettemods.htm

Click on the new link to show you lots of photos and part number for the installation.

Everyone with a pre-2011 Vette with Onstar should do this simple mod.

Very Ray! Another little improvement I didn't even know GM had done. Thanks for posting.

Is that the same mic used for the Bluetooth and voice commands on our 2009? Looks like it.

If i could get people to understand me better when using bluetooth, for $20, that would be a great deal.

Any idea if this improves the Nav responses as well?

Does the mic in the top photo look like your 2009? I was advised these were new in 2011 - maybe I'm mistaken?

Anyway, the one in the top photo definitely works better than the one in the lower photo in my 2007.

Our 2009 has the old style microphone, like in the second picture.

What I'm wondering is, is that A-pillar mic also used for the Bluetooth phone system? I think it is, but not sure.

My Vette doesn't have Onstar, but my daily Pontiac GXP does(or did). Kept getting dealer calls and mailings about pushing the little blue button, but never did. Then reminders over the audio system. That did it, and pulled out the power fuses. What the heck I need this thing for. Just bought the car to get to work, without anyone bothering me.

The microphone isn't something you have to listen to - it's so they can hear you. I use the Onstar phone system which works very well - when they can understand you. When dialing a number, you have to speak the number. Before I swapped microphones, the virtual operator kept saying "Pardon?" - very frustrating!

Thanks for the heads up on the mic update. Ordered one for my 2007 convert this morning.

Will update after I get the new one installed.

UPDATE:
Installed the new updated newer model mic today and it is truly a under 5 minute install.

Works perfect and even with AC going full bore and speaking at a low volume picks up everything clearly the first time with no problem.

Worth the 25 bucks I paid from my Chevy dealer.

I assume the mic part number for the Convertible and Coupe are the same ( 15916146) , correct?

Off topic, but I had never seen your leather dash replacement and then the whole interior with the door panels and WOW!! what a change and what an improvement. Great job. Many years ago, I took the dash out of my C3 and while certainly time consuming, it wasn't very hard. I'm not sure I'd want to tackle the C6 unless it's something my wife would want me to do. (no way in hell)

Thanks ahead.

That's crazy as full dealer list price on that part is $33.37 and my dealer gives me 25% off on everything so came to $25.02.
