Thanks for the info on the speaker especially the location because when I tried OnStar (one time) and wanted to know where to speak, the operator said the microphone was in the mirror.
What a service!!

Thank you. It wasn't all that hard to do even though it looks like a big deal. The new one went in perfectly. If you follow the photos on my website, you can install one for your wife!

I don't know for sure, but if your microphone looks like my old one, give Bob Wendorff at Fichtner a call and ask him. His phone number is on my website:

Remember that you don't need the bezel - you can reuse the old one. Some dealers may want to sell you the bezel too. Check out the photos on my website to show you the details:

Some 2009's have the new mic and some 2010's have the old mic. That sounds rather strange.

Another mystery.

I have never used the Onstar and when I got the expiration notice in the mail for a renewal I promptly threw it in the trash. Suggest you do the same. I use my hands free with my phone with the top off and it works just fine...and that is at 35-60 miles per hour.

I installed my new mic last week and it works great! Much better than a traditional cell phone.

Thanks for the tip. Bought the new mic. Got in the car, turned on the AC and changed it in under 5 minutes while sitting in air conditioned comfort.

No tools are necessary for this install.

For you guys that changed the mic, how do you disengage the window molding? I'm sure you can't just pull it down. Do you push in or pull out the molding while pulling the molding down??

Just grasp the windshield trim with your hands and pull. There are metal clips on the alignment tabs that will release and they will snap back in when you push it back in place after the new mic has been installed. Like everyone says a 5 min job and no tools needed.

I've received a number of emails asking where to purchase the new microphones. I'd recommend Bob in Parts at Fichtner Chevrolet. His phone number is on my website:

Ray, thanks for the tip. I replaced mine today and the test call went off without a hitch. I won't use it as often as I do the GM PAL I purchased from you but it will certainly be nice not to have to repeat the phone numbers.
