YOU GUYS! i have the greatest respect for you guys who are fighting the real crime. cops in the major urban areas of our country are in a class by themselves. i only shake my head when i see all the law enforcement that is aimed at getting some guy going 10 miles or more over the speed limit with massive forces and technology.
stay safe buddy, and keep an eye on that speedometer, you are a walking atm.

NOT taking any cheap shots at cops in general, however there are those that some wish were doing a different line of work because having a badge on their chest and a weapon on their belt does something to their psychy....just say'in.
As in any group, always a bad apple.....
For the good guys out there I for one appreciate ya!!

I'm all for keeping drunks off the road and have no issue with Law Enforcement doing that. The real shame is that for most of us to be safe, be it from dui, texting, phone talking offenders and officers running speed traps is that the rest of us have to restrict our activities and stay home. Its not fair to us who are just out to enjoy the weekend and who are also not violating any laws. One poster in here from Texas mentioned speed traps or something...where were the officers this past February on I-35 up into Oklahoma with iced-over freeway and not an officer in site....forever. Tons of accidents out there, people stranded, cars upside down and etc...but no law enforcement.
And the BAD thing it IS TRUE. This DID happen.....
add: I'm not the person who had post that as well. I know because I LIVE in the area where it occured....

Last night city cop rolled down his window and told me with a big smile "hey the Camaro behind you wants to run you".
I ask him if he'd officiate the race and he burst out laughing!
Most cops are car guys.
And tickets are all about revenue and keeping folks somewhat honest since cops can't be everywhere.
Anyhoo, it's the holiday and highways here were far too busy to dick around safely.

Ok...so Sunday night, while I was transporting a drunk downtown, we lost an officer, a friend, a father and husband. Memphis lost more credibility.
Officer Timothy Warren was shot and killed after responding to a domestic dispute and shooting at a DoubleTree Hotel downtown at approximately 7:00 pm.
A male subject had gone to the hotel in search of a woman. After locating her he shot and killed a man who was with her.
Patrolman Warren was among the first officers on the scene and was searching for the suspect on an upper floor. He was in a stairwell when the man opened a door connecting to the floor and shot him in the head. The suspect was taken into custody after shooting Patrolman Warren.
Patrolman Warren had served with the Memphis Police Department for eight years. He is survived by his wife and two children.
I don't know what else to say guys. I have to go back to the streets tomoroow afternoon, and just dont have words. The funeral is Friday.
We pay a pretty steep price so some folks can just continue to be, well, you know.

Read this post twice and decided to say something that most of you already know!
Most good, tax paying, hard working folks only deal with or interact with LEO's in traffic enforcement situations (ie: speeding). But most LEO's spend their time dealing with scum, low-life, drug dealing, gang-banging NON-TAX PAYING thugs! You see, LEO's are paid by you, but spend most of their time protecting dirtbags for each other. The average city or community has it's "bad side of the tracks" which is were the LEO's are at most of the time. It's BS! I am on my 25th year as an LEO and I have worked as a patrol officer, foot beats, traffic enforcement and street crime. Then to the Detective Division, property crimes, violent crimes, homicide, Narcotics and vice. Then to Sergeant and back on the streets supervising the patrol officers. Now a Lieutenant "putting out fires" complaints, budgets, schedules BUT STILL....mostly dealing with the scum of the earth! It's not fair! YOU GUYS pay our salary, but we don't work for you most of the time. Sure we "help" protect the good from the bad, but mostly...we protect the bad from eachother! Believe me, most cops would rather write speeding tickets than to go to domestics, drug houses and gang shootings. Sure speeding tickets make money for small towns, but highways, big cities, interstates, no way! It cost more to enforce traffic violations than the money tickets generate due to court cost, employees, saleries, equipment and GAS for the police vehicles. It is about traffic safety...in most cases!

just think of the increased presence of police on a holiday weekend a way to counter act the increase in a$$hole drivers. and why do these posts always turn into a cheap shot, cop bashing forum? why dont we pick on lawyers or car salesmen instead for a change?

Condolences from the California Highway Patrol. I am not sure if CHP is sending some of our officers to Memphis or not at this time, budget issues as you know. As is usually the case, the officer leaves behind a wife and several children. Rest in Peace Patrolman Warren! We'll take it from here.

Too sad. Thanks for the post. Perhaps it will wake up some of the Cop bashers here.

I just drive 5mph over in my DD everywhere I go and average just under 30mpg in a SUV. You dont really save a lot of time going 10mph+ over, and you open yourself up to tickets and waste a lot of $ on gas.
On the backroads in my Vette, thats another story, but I know the roads really well after 10 years of riding motorcycles on them - I know where all the traps are.

Get over it! Someone spends 25+ years doing a job and they get a few perks! Big deal!!!Doctors get breaks on medical treatments, lawyers get breaks on legal fees and so on...It's just a freaken speeding ticket, who cares??? Besides, most cops don't even eat donuts! I don't and I don't drink coffee either!: But whats even more stange, is I don't speed very often. I kind of just take easy, 5-9 mph over at the most on highways. Around town, I do the speed limit!

A doctor may get an office visit for him or his family at a better rate than you & I... And a fisherman will most likely pay less for a "CHARTER BOAT" than other people...
And I'm sure Charter boat Captains eat "Dough-nuts" or maybe Crab cakes but they are not in the "Spotlight' as much as LEO.. thats why a Chaterboat Captain can throw stones at LEO... on the job or retired...
Also Charter boat captains don't face the life & death or some of the same situations a LEO will face almost on a daily bases....
The just can sit back and enjoy a "Bud Light" while the paying fisherman is hoping for a bite....
Off the rant... I'm sure "SOME" charter boat Captains are honest hard working people, the same as 99.9% of LEO....

Thank you for saying something that is "Honest & True" I agree, a Charter Boat Captain or even a crew member of one boat might get a better price to be taken out on a fishing trip, than you or I !!

Not from your area but we get it starting on the 4 of July till Labor Day. Went for gas the other day and found a State Police car hiding off the road. I asked the kid who pumped my gas and asked him if he(cop) is always there. He told me yea, got the kid last week for a cracked windshield. I asked how he was doing to day, kid said he took off after about 12 cars today. Becareful and drive safely.
